Eco-Drive is Citizen's light-powered quartz technology. A cell behind the dial converts any light into energy, so the watch never needs a battery change and, fully charged, keeps running for months in the dark.
Citizen built its first light-powered analogue watch in 1976 and continues that technology today under the Eco-Drive name. A light cell behind the dial stores sunlight or room light in a rechargeable cell; that cell lasts for decades, and there is no battery to replace. A fully charged Eco-Drive will carry on running for months in a dark drawer.
