Description
The FT500WC series presents a straightforward approach to timekeeping, centred on legibility and function. Its high-contrast analogue dial features bold Arabic numerals and a simple three-hand layout, powered by a dependable Japanese quartz movement. This design prioritises an immediate, clear reading of the time in various conditions.
The watch's construction emphasises lightness and durability for everyday wear. A 43.9mm case made from tough resin keeps the total weight exceptionally low, ensuring it remains unobtrusive on the wrist. This case is topped with a flat mineral crystal, providing a good degree of scratch resistance for its intended use as a field instrument.
Paired with a rugged nylon pass-through strap, the watch is secure and comfortable in changing environments. The strap material is quick to dry and easy to clean, reinforcing its practical character. With a water resistance rating across 100 metres, it is well-equipped to handle surface swimming and exposure to the elements without issue.

Editor's take
The Casio FT500WVB-5BV is an exercise in pure function, designed for someone needing a reliable timepiece without pretence. It serves as a classic 'beater' watch, offering a legible analogue display for activities where a more expensive watch would be a liability. Its design has an honest, tool-like quality that is a Casio hallmark.
What stands out most is the watch's near-weightless presence. The combination of a Resin case and a simple Nylon strap results in a watch weighing under 30 grams. This focus on practical materials means it can be worn all day without causing fatigue. The comfort is a direct result of its purpose-driven construction.
An owner should be aware of the material trade-offs. The dial is protected by a Mineral Crystal, which is more prone to scratching than the sapphire found on more expensive field watches. While the 100-metre water resistance is sufficient for rain and swimming, the watch does not carry a diver's certification for demanding underwater use.
This is a strong choice for a worry-free timepiece or for someone who values utility above all. The battery-powered Quartz movement provides set-it-and-forget-it accuracy. For an unassuming, legible, and extremely lightweight field watch, this Casio delivers on its core promise without complication.
