Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical H69439933 suitable for daily wear and swimming?
Yes, the Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical is designed for daily wear with its durable stainless steel case and sapphire crystal. Its 50m water resistance means it can withstand splashes and brief immersion, making it suitable for light swimming, but it is not recommended for diving or prolonged water activities.
What is the power reserve of the H-50 manual-winding movement in this watch?
The Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical H69439933 features the exclusive H-50 manual-winding movement, which offers an impressive 80-hour power reserve. This allows the watch to run for over three days on a full wind, providing excellent autonomy for a manual watch.
How does the manual-winding movement compare to an automatic movement for a field watch?
The manual-winding movement in the Hamilton Khaki Field H69439933 offers a more traditional and interactive experience, requiring daily winding. An automatic movement, found in other field watches, self-winds with wrist motion. The choice often comes down to personal preference for engagement with the timepiece versus convenience.
What kind of wrist size is suitable for the 38mm case of this Hamilton watch?
The 38mm case size of the Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical H69439933 is quite versatile and generally suitable for a wide range of wrist sizes, typically from 6 to 7.5 inches (15 to 19 cm). Its compact dimensions ensure a comfortable and proportionate fit on most men's wrists.
Does the dial of the Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical offer good visibility in low light?
Yes, the black dial of the Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical H69439933 is equipped with Super-LumiNova on its markers and hands. This luminescent material ensures excellent legibility and visibility in low-light conditions, making it practical for outdoor adventures and nighttime use.
Editor's take
The Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical H69439933 stands as a quintessential example of a military-inspired timepiece, appealing to enthusiasts who value history and robust simplicity. Its 38mm case size makes it incredibly versatile, fitting a wide range of wrists and maintaining a discreet profile, true to its utilitarian origins.
Powering this enduring design is Hamilton's H-50 manual-winding movement, a modern calibre derived from the ETA 2801-2, offering a substantial 80-hour power reserve. This extended autonomy is a significant upgrade, ensuring the watch keeps accurate time even if not wound daily. The use of a sapphire crystal further enhances its durability, providing superior scratch resistance over mineral glass.
While its 50-metre water resistance is sufficient for daily splashes and light swimming, it is not designed for serious diving or prolonged water immersion, which might be a consideration for those seeking a true dive watch. The manual-winding nature, while charming for purists, requires daily interaction, which might not suit everyone's lifestyle.
Ultimately, the Khaki Field Mechanical is an excellent choice for collectors and everyday wearers seeking a reliable, historically significant, and aesthetically pleasing mechanical watch. For those who prefer an automatic movement or higher water resistance, other models within the Khaki Field collection or dedicated sport watches from brands like Seiko or Citizen could be viable alternatives.
