Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Hamilton Khaki Field King Auto H64455523 suitable for daily swimming or showering?
The Hamilton Khaki Field King Auto H64455523 has a water resistance of 50 metres (5 bar). This rating means it can withstand splashes, rain, and brief immersion in water, making it suitable for daily wear and light swimming. However, it is not recommended for showering, snorkelling, or diving, as the steam and pressure changes can compromise the seals over time.
What type of movement powers this Hamilton Khaki Field watch and what is its power reserve?
This Hamilton Khaki Field watch is powered by the Swiss-made H-40 automatic movement. This robust calibre is known for its extended 80-hour power reserve, meaning the watch can run for over three days without needing to be worn or wound. This is a significant advantage for daily wear, offering convenience and reliability.
How durable is the Khaki Field King Auto for outdoor activities and sports?
The Khaki Field King Auto is built for adventure with its 40mm stainless steel case and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. While it's designed to be rugged for outdoor pursuits, it's not a dedicated sports watch with extreme shock resistance. The leather strap is comfortable but may not be ideal for intense sports or prolonged water exposure.
Will the 40mm case size of the Hamilton Khaki Field King Auto fit most men's wrists?
A 40mm case size is considered a versatile and popular dimension for men's watches, fitting a wide range of wrist sizes comfortably. With a lug width of 20mm, it provides a balanced presence without being overly large. It is suitable for average to larger wrists, typically those between 6.5 and 8 inches in circumference.
What makes the Hamilton Khaki Field King Auto a true "field watch" compared to other styles?
The Hamilton Khaki Field King Auto draws directly from Hamilton's rich military heritage, specifically its role in supplying watches to WWI soldiers. Its design emphasises legibility, durability, and reliability, featuring a clear beige dial with Super-LumiNova and a robust build. This focus on practical functionality for outdoor and demanding environments defines its field watch character.
What kind of maintenance does an automatic watch like the H64455523 require?
As an automatic watch, the H64455523 does not require battery changes. It is powered by the motion of your wrist. Regular service, typically every 3-5 years, is recommended to ensure the movement remains lubricated and accurate. The leather strap should also be cleaned and conditioned periodically to maintain its appearance and longevity.
Editor's take
The Hamilton Khaki Field King Auto H64455523 stands as a quintessential example of a modern field watch, blending historical military aesthetics with contemporary watchmaking. Designed for the discerning individual who values both heritage and functionality, this timepiece from the renowned Khaki Field collection offers a robust yet refined presence on the wrist. It’s a versatile choice for daily wear, whether in urban environments or during outdoor excursions, appealing to those who appreciate a watch with a story.
Powering this reliable companion is the Hamilton H-40 automatic movement, a workhorse calibre known for its impressive 80-hour power reserve. This extended autonomy ensures the watch remains accurate even after a weekend off the wrist, a significant convenience for an automatic timepiece. The 40mm stainless steel case is paired with a durable sapphire crystal, providing excellent scratch resistance and clear visibility of the beige dial, which features Super-LumiNova for legibility in various lighting conditions.
While the 50-metre water resistance is sufficient for daily splashes and light swimming, it's important to note that this watch is not designed for serious diving or prolonged submersion. Its leather strap, while comfortable and stylish, may also require more careful maintenance than a metal bracelet if frequently exposed to water. This makes it more suited for general outdoor activities rather than rigorous aquatic sports.
Ultimately, the Khaki Field King Auto H64455523 is an excellent choice for enthusiasts seeking a dependable, historically rich automatic field watch with a strong character. Its blend of Swiss precision, robust build, and classic design makes it a compelling option for those who appreciate a watch that can transition effortlessly between casual and semi-formal settings. For those requiring higher water resistance, exploring dedicated dive watches might be a better alternative.
