Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Casio A500WGA-9D suitable for swimming or showering?
The Casio A500WGA-9D has a water resistance rating of 30m. This means it is designed to withstand splashes, rain, or brief immersion in water, but it is not recommended for swimming, showering, or any water sports where it might be submerged for extended periods.
What kind of battery does this digital watch use and how long does it last?
The Casio A500WGA-9D uses a CR2016 battery. This type of battery is known for its longevity, offering an approximate battery life of 7 years, which is quite impressive for a digital watch with multiple functions.
How does the Casio A500WGA-9D compare to other vintage-style digital watches?
The A500WGA-9D stands out with its distinctive gold-tone finish, rectangular case, and comprehensive world time function, which is not always present in similar vintage digital models. Its resin case and acrylic glass contribute to its authentic retro feel, offering a balance of style and affordability compared to more robust, modern alternatives.
Is the Casio A500WGA-9D suitable for all wrist sizes?
With a case diameter of 34.0mm and a lightweight resin strap, the Casio A500WGA-9D is designed to be comfortable and versatile for a wide range of wrist sizes. Its unisex appeal ensures it fits well on both smaller and larger wrists, providing a balanced presence without being overly bulky.
What are the main functions of the chronograph on this Casio watch?
The Casio A500WGA-9D features a 1/100-second digital stopwatch, allowing for precise timing of events. This chronograph function is complemented by other useful features like a daily alarm, hourly time signal, and an auto calendar, making it a highly functional timepiece for daily use.
Editor's take
The Casio A500WGA-9D from the Vintage Collection offers a nostalgic journey back to the digital era, perfectly blending retro aesthetics with practical, modern-day functionalities. Designed as a unisex timepiece, its distinctive gold-tone finish and rectangular form factor make it a statement piece for those who appreciate classic digital watch design. This model embodies Casio's enduring appeal in creating accessible and stylish timekeeping instruments.
At its core, this Casio timepiece is powered by a reliable Japanese quartz movement, ensuring precise timekeeping and a host of digital features. The watch boasts a comprehensive suite of functions, including a 1/100-second digital stopwatch, multiple daily alarms, and a world time function that displays the current time in various cities across the globe. Its CR2016 battery provides an impressive approximate 7-year lifespan, minimizing maintenance needs for the user.
However, potential owners should note its 30m water resistance, which renders it suitable only for splashes and light rain, not for swimming or showering. The use of acrylic glass for the display, while authentic to its vintage inspiration, means it is more susceptible to scratches compared to sapphire or mineral crystals. The resin case and strap, while lightweight, may not offer the same premium feel or long-term durability as stainless steel alternatives.
Ultimately, the Casio A500WGA-9D is an excellent choice for individuals seeking a fun, functional, and fashion-forward digital watch with a strong retro character. It serves well as a daily casual companion or a travel watch, particularly for those who value the convenience of world time and a long battery life. For those requiring higher water resistance or superior scratch protection, exploring other Casio lines or entry-level sports watches might be a more suitable alternative.
