Casio DBC-32-1AES, 35mm, Black Dial, Black Resin Band

The Casio Databank series represents a distinct chapter in digital watchmaking, and the DBC-32 continues this legacy. Driven by the capable 2888 module, it delivers a suite of functions centered around its prominent front-facing keypad. This design is not merely nostalgic; it offers genuine utility for quick calculations and data retrieval without reaching for another device.

The watch's construction prioritizes comfort and a low-profile presence on the wrist. Its 35mm case is formed from a durable black resin, matched with an integrated resin strap that secures with a simple pin buckle. Weighing a mere 34 grams, its presence is almost unnoticeable during daily wear, a stark contrast to heavier steel sport watches. The dial is protected by a shaped acrylic crystal, consistent with its vintage-era design.

Beyond the 8-digit calculator, its core feature is a databank with memory for 25 entries, allowing for storage of names and telephone numbers. The module also supports 13 languages for day-of-the-week display, a 1/100-second stopwatch, five multi-function alarms, and an auto calendar. An LED light provides basic illumination for the digital screen in low-light conditions.

The Casio DBC-32-1AES is for a wearer who values function and unabashedly retro design. It appeals to those who grew up with these devices and a new generation discovering the charm of 80s digital tech. This is less a timepiece and more a wearable gadget, a conversation starter that occupies a unique niche. Its appeal is rooted in its distinctive, purpose-driven form.

The standout characteristic is the integrated calculator and databank system. Powered by the reliable Calibre 2888 quartz movement, the watch provides a tangible interface for calculations and data storage that feels surprisingly immediate. The entire assembly is housed in a lightweight Resin case, making it exceptionally comfortable. This focus on utility and wearability is a core part of its identity.

A prospective owner should be clear about the watch's physical limitations. The crystal is Acrylic, which is period-correct but lacks the scratch resistance of modern glass. Furthermore, its water resistance is minimal, suitable for incidental splashes but not for swimming. This is a tool for the desk and the street, not for rugged use. The construction prioritizes low mass over outright toughness.

For the enthusiast who understands its context, this Databank is an easy recommendation. It offers a direct link to a pivotal moment in consumer electronics history. The integrated Resin strap is comfortable and completes the authentic look. It serves as a perfect counterpoint to a traditional analog watch, delivering personality and usefulness that few other designs can match.
