Editor's take
This 47mm device, with its robust ABS case and advanced features, is designed to enhance the golfing experience from tee to green. It's a sophisticated tool for those serious about improving their game.
Technically, the S72 stands out with its lightweight titanium bezel and a highly durable sapphire lens, offering superior scratch resistance compared to mineral glass. The vibrant AMOLED display provides exceptional clarity for its preloaded 43,000+ CourseView maps, ensuring readability even in direct sunlight. With a 50m water resistance rating, it can withstand splashes and rain, making it reliable in various outdoor conditions.
One potential drawback for some users might be the reliance on a Garmin Golf membership for certain advanced features like aerial imagery and green contour data. While the core functionalities are strong, unlocking the full potential of the S72 requires an additional subscription. This could be a consideration for budget-conscious golfers or those who prefer a one-time purchase for all features.
Ultimately, the Garmin Approach S72 is an excellent choice for the dedicated golfer who values comprehensive data, precise tracking, and a premium build. For those seeking a more general-purpose smartwatch with golf features as a secondary function, alternatives from brands like Apple or Samsung might offer broader smart functionalities, albeit with less specialized golf analytics. However, for a focused golf experience, the S72 is hard to beat.
