Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Bulova Military Hack 98A255 suitable for daily wear and sports?
The Bulova Military Hack 98A255 is well-suited for daily wear and light activities due to its durable stainless steel case and automatic movement. However, with 30m water resistance, it is not recommended for swimming or high-impact sports.
What type of movement does this Bulova Military Hack watch use?
This Bulova Military Hack 98A255 features a reliable automatic mechanical movement. This means it is powered by the motion of your wrist and does not require a battery, offering a traditional watchmaking experience.
How does the Bulova Military Hack compare to other field watches in its price range?
The Bulova Military Hack 98A255 stands out with its authentic military heritage design, hack feature, and automatic movement at an accessible price point. Many alternatives might offer quartz movements or less distinct historical styling.
Can I swim or shower with the Bulova Military Hack 98A255?
The Bulova Military Hack 98A255 has a water resistance of 30 metres, which means it can withstand splashes and brief immersion. It is not designed for swimming, showering, or diving, as these activities can compromise its seals.
What is the typical wrist size this 38mm watch would fit?
With its 38mm case diameter, the Bulova Military Hack 98A255 is generally suitable for a wide range of wrist sizes, typically fitting wrists from 6.5 to 8 inches comfortably. The leather strap provides flexibility for adjustment.
What kind of maintenance does an automatic watch like the Bulova Military Hack require?

Editor's take
The Bulova Military Hack 98A255 is a compelling tribute to Bulova's rich military heritage, offering a classic field watch aesthetic within its contemporary Men's Military Collection. Designed for enthusiasts who appreciate historical accuracy blended with modern wearability, this timepiece presents a refined yet rugged character. Its modest 38mm stainless steel case and black dial with a hack feature evoke the utilitarian spirit of watches issued to soldiers, making it an ideal choice for daily wear or as a subtle statement piece.
At its heart lies a reliable automatic movement, ensuring consistent and accurate timekeeping without the need for manual winding or battery changes. This mechanical core is protected by a double domed mineral crystal, which not only adds to its vintage charm but also offers a good balance of durability for everyday knocks. The watch's 3-hand display is straightforward and highly legible, reinforcing its functional design philosophy.
While the 30-metre water resistance is sufficient for splashes and light rain, it is important to note that this watch is not designed for swimming or diving. Those seeking a timepiece for more rigorous aquatic activities might find this a limiting factor, and should consider models with higher water resistance ratings. The leather strap provides comfort and a classic look, though it may require more frequent replacement than a metal bracelet.
Overall, the Bulova Military Hack 98A255 is an excellent choice for men seeking an affordable, historically inspired automatic watch with a distinct military flair. It appeals to collectors and casual wearers alike who value mechanical integrity and a classic design. For those prioritising robust water performance, a dedicated dive watch might be a better alternative in a similar price bracket.
