Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Bulova Military Hack 96A246 suitable for daily wear and sports activities?
The Bulova Military Hack 96A246 is designed for daily wear, offering a comfortable 38mm case and a durable leather strap. While it's robust for everyday use, its 30-metre water resistance and mineral crystal mean it's not ideal for intense sports or activities involving significant impact or water exposure.
Can I swim or shower while wearing this Bulova watch?
This Bulova Military Hack watch has a water resistance of 30 metres, which means it can withstand splashes and light rain. However, it is not recommended for swimming, showering, or any prolonged water immersion, as this could compromise the watch's internal components.
How does the Bulova Military Hack 96A246 compare to other field watches in its category?
The Bulova Military Hack 96A246 stands out with its authentic military heritage design, reliable automatic movement, and hack feature at a competitive price point. While some alternatives might offer sapphire crystal or higher water resistance, this model provides a strong blend of classic aesthetics and mechanical reliability for its segment.
What kind of maintenance does an automatic watch like the Bulova Military Hack require?
As an automatic watch, the Bulova Military Hack 96A246 does not require a battery change. It is powered by your wrist's motion. Regular servicing, typically every 3-5 years, is recommended to ensure the movement remains lubricated and accurate.
Who is this Bulova Military Hack watch suitable for, and what wrist sizes does it fit?
This watch is suitable for men who appreciate military-inspired design, mechanical movements, and a classic, understated aesthetic. With its 38mm case diameter and 18mm lug width, it generally fits wrist sizes from approximately 6.5 to 8 inches comfortably, making it versatile for many wearers.
What is the 'hack feature' on the Bulova Military Hack 96A246 and how is it useful?
The 'hack feature' on the Bulova Military Hack 96A246 allows the second hand to stop when the crown is pulled out to set the time. This enables precise time synchronisation, a crucial function for military personnel who needed to coordinate movements down to the second.
Editor's take
The Bulova Military Hack 96A246 stands as a faithful homage to the brand's storied military past, drawing inspiration from field watches that served with distinction. This piece from the Military Collection offers a blend of historical accuracy and modern wearability, appealing to enthusiasts who appreciate a classic aesthetic with a robust build. Its modest 38mm case size ensures a comfortable fit for most wrists, embodying the utilitarian spirit of its predecessors.
At its core, the watch is powered by a reliable automatic mechanical movement, a choice that underscores its traditional watchmaking credentials. This movement features a practical hack function, allowing for precise time synchronisation, a critical detail for military timepieces. The dial is protected by a double-domed mineral crystal, which adds a vintage charm while offering decent scratch resistance for daily use.
While the 30-metre water resistance is sufficient for everyday splashes and light rain, it falls short for swimming or diving activities, limiting its versatility for more adventurous wearers. The use of a mineral crystal, though historically accurate for many field watches, might be a point of consideration for those accustomed to the superior scratch resistance of sapphire. This makes it less ideal for truly rugged outdoor pursuits.
Ultimately, the Bulova Military Hack 96A246 is an excellent choice for individuals seeking an authentic military-inspired timepiece with an automatic movement and a compact profile. It serves as a fantastic entry point into mechanical watches for those who value heritage and understated design. For those requiring greater water resistance or a more durable crystal, exploring other field watch options with sapphire glass or higher WR ratings would be advisable.
