Will it fit your wrist?
Best on 15.8–16.8 cm (6.2–6.6 in) wrists
A 38.6 mm case sits just right on these wrists. If your wrist is 16.8–17.8 cm, it looks smaller and more understated. If your wrist is 14.8–15.8 cm, it looks bigger and bolder.

All our watch size dataDescription
The A168WEGB-1BEF revisits a foundational Casio design language from the late 20th century, presented here in a high-contrast black and gold-tone colourway. Its squared resin case measures a compact 38.6mm, making it a suitable fit for a wide range of wrist sizes. The entire construction is exceptionally light, weighing in at just 49 grams.
At its core is a dependable Casio quartz module, providing essential timekeeping functions including a 1/100-second stopwatch, a daily alarm, and an automatic calendar. The digital display is notable for its clarity and features the brand's Illuminator backlight, which provides even, blue-green illumination across the entire screen for excellent low-light visibility. This is a significant functional upgrade over earlier side-lit models.
The watch is fitted with an 18mm resin strap that integrates smoothly into the case lugs, maintaining the watch's angular profile. This material choice prioritises durability and comfort for everyday wear. While its water resistance is rated for minor splashes, the watch is primarily intended for daily life on dry land, a focus reflected in its straightforward, functional build.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Casio Retro A168WEGB-1BEF suitable for daily swimming or showering?
The Casio Retro A168WEGB-1BEF has a water resistance rating of 10 metres. This means it can withstand splashes, rain, and brief immersion, but it is not recommended for swimming, showering, or any water sports where it might be submerged for extended periods or exposed to high-pressure water.
What type of movement does this Casio Retro watch use and what are its key features?
This Casio Retro A168WEGB-1BEF watch is powered by a reliable quartz movement, ensuring accurate timekeeping. Its key features include a 1/100th second stopwatch, an auto calendar, and an Illuminator backlight for easy reading in low-light conditions, making it a highly functional digital timepiece.
How does the Casio Retro A168WEGB-1BEF compare to other digital watches in its price range?
The Casio Retro A168WEGB-1BEF stands out with its iconic retro design, durable resin case, and practical digital features like a stopwatch and backlight. While many digital watches offer similar functions, this model's classic aesthetic and unisex appeal often make it a preferred alternative for those seeking vintage style.
What kind of maintenance does the Casio Retro A168WEGB-1BEF require?
The Casio Retro A168WEGB-1BEF, being a quartz watch, requires minimal maintenance. The primary upkeep involves replacing the battery when it runs out, typically every few years. The acrylic glass can be polished to remove minor scratches, and the resin case can be cleaned with a soft, damp cloth.
Is the Casio Retro A168WEGB-1BEF suitable for all wrist sizes?
With a 38.6mm case diameter and a lightweight resin construction, the Casio Retro A168WEGB-1BEF is designed to be comfortable for a wide range of wrist sizes. Its unisex appeal means it fits well on both smaller and larger wrists, offering a balanced presence without being overly bulky.
Editor's take
The audience for the A168WEGB-1BEF is not the traditional collector, but someone with an eye for industrial design and digital aesthetics. It operates as a style accessory that happens to tell time, recalling a specific moment in consumer electronics history. Its appeal is its authenticity and lack of pretence.
Its most defining trait is the unapologetically retro form, executed in a lightweight Resin case. This watch celebrates its own heritage rather than imitating a mechanical heirloom. The Illuminator backlight is a significant functional upgrade over vintage originals, providing superior legibility for modern daily wear.
A prospective owner should note the material trade-offs. The crystal is Acrylic, which is less scratch-resistant than sapphire, though minor scuffs can often be polished out. Furthermore, the stated water resistance is sufficient only for incidental splashes, positioning this as a casual piece not intended for swimming.
For a reliable and stylish daily watch, this Casio is an excellent choice. Its quartz movement is accurate and low-maintenance, and its feather-light build makes it comfortable all day. It succeeds by delivering core digital functions and a classic aesthetic without complication.
