Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Citizen Military BM8570-09E suitable for swimming or showering?
The Citizen Military BM8570-09E is listed as 'Water Resistant' but does not specify a depth in metres. This generally means it can withstand splashes and brief exposure to water, but it is not recommended for swimming, showering, or any prolonged immersion to ensure its longevity.
What type of movement powers this Citizen Military watch?
This Citizen Military BM8570-09E watch is powered by Citizen's Eco-Drive solar movement. This innovative technology converts any light source into energy, storing it in a power cell, meaning it never requires a battery replacement and offers reliable daily performance.
How does the BM8570-09E compare to other field watches in its price range?
The BM8570-09E stands out with its Eco-Drive solar technology and classic military aesthetic, offering a low-maintenance and reliable option. While some alternatives might offer higher water resistance or different complications, this model focuses on robust build quality and sustainable power, making it a strong contender for those prioritising convenience and durability.
Who is this Citizen Military BM8570-09E watch most suitable for?
The Citizen Military BM8570-09E is most suitable for men seeking a durable and reliable timepiece for daily wear and outdoor activities. Its 42mm stainless steel case and luminous markers make it practical and legible, appealing to enthusiasts of military-inspired design and those who appreciate solar-powered convenience on their wrist.
What kind of maintenance does the Eco-Drive movement require?
The Eco-Drive movement in the Citizen Military BM8570-09E requires minimal maintenance. Since it's solar-powered, you simply need to ensure it's regularly exposed to light to keep it charged. Periodic checks for the mineral glass and strap condition are advisable, but no battery changes are ever needed for this water resistant watch.
Editor's take
The Citizen Military BM8570-09E represents a quintessential field watch, blending rugged aesthetics with practical, modern technology. Designed for the active man who values reliability and a no-fuss approach to timekeeping, this model from Citizen's robust lineup offers a classic military-inspired look without compromising on functionality. It's an ideal choice for daily wear and outdoor adventures.
Central to its appeal is Citizen's proprietary Eco-Drive solar movement, a significant technical achievement that harnesses light energy to power the watch, effectively eliminating the need for battery changes. This ensures consistent performance and reduces environmental impact. The 42mm stainless steel case provides a substantial yet comfortable presence on the wrist, complemented by a durable mineral glass crystal that offers good scratch resistance for its class.
While the BM8570-09E excels in its core mission as a reliable field watch, the absence of a specified water resistance rating beyond 'Water Resistant' means it's not suitable for swimming or diving. This limits its utility for serious aquatic activities, positioning it primarily as a land-based companion. Users seeking a watch for extensive water exposure might need to consider alternatives with higher, specified water resistance.
Ultimately, this Citizen Military watch is an excellent recommendation for those seeking a dependable, low-maintenance timepiece with a strong military heritage and modern solar power. Its luminous hands and markers ensure readability in challenging conditions, making it a solid choice for casual wearers, outdoor enthusiasts, and anyone appreciating a classic, robust design. For those needing more robust water protection, a dedicated dive watch would be a better fit.
