Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Citizen Terra Force AW1890-19B suitable for daily swimming and showering?
The Citizen Terra Force AW1890-19B features 100 metres of water resistance, making it suitable for daily swimming and recreational water sports. However, it is generally recommended to avoid wearing any watch in the shower, as hot water and soap can compromise the seals over time. For casual swimming, this model performs well.
How does the Eco-Drive movement in this Citizen watch compare to traditional quartz movements?
The Eco-Drive movement in the Citizen Terra Force AW1890-19B is a solar-powered quartz movement. Unlike traditional quartz watches that require periodic battery replacements, Eco-Drive converts any light source into energy, storing it in a power cell. This means superior convenience and environmental friendliness, as you never need to change a battery, offering reliable and consistent timekeeping.
What kind of maintenance does the Citizen Terra Force AW1890-19B require?
The Citizen Terra Force AW1890-19B requires minimal maintenance due to its Eco-Drive technology. Simply ensure it receives regular exposure to light to keep it charged. Periodic cleaning with a soft cloth will maintain its appearance. While no battery changes are needed, it's advisable to have the water resistance seals checked every few years by a professional to ensure continued performance.
Is the 41.2mm case size of the Terra Force suitable for smaller wrists?
The 41.2mm case size of the Citizen Terra Force AW1890-19B is a versatile diameter that fits a wide range of wrist sizes. For individuals with smaller wrists, it might offer a more prominent, modern field watch look without being overly large. The lug-to-lug distance and case thickness also play a role, but generally, 41.2mm is considered a comfortable size for many men.
What are the key differences between the Terra Force and other Citizen field watches in a similar price range?
The Citizen Terra Force AW1890-19B distinguishes itself with its specific field-inspired dial design featuring clear Arabic numerals and a robust yet classic aesthetic. While many Citizen field watches share the reliable Eco-Drive movement and similar water resistance, the Terra Force often emphasises a more rugged, utilitarian look with its particular case finishing and dial layout, offering a distinct style for those seeking a classic field watch.
Editor's take
The Citizen Terra Force AW1890-19B emerges as a compelling option for those seeking a reliable and environmentally conscious field watch. This model successfully blends the utilitarian aesthetic of classic military-inspired timepieces with Citizen's pioneering solar technology, making it suitable for everyday wear and light outdoor activities.
At the heart of the Terra Force is Citizen's proprietary Eco-Drive movement, a testament to the brand's commitment to sustainable watchmaking. This solar-powered calibre ensures the watch runs continuously with any light source, eliminating the need for battery replacements. The 41.2mm stainless steel case provides a robust yet wearable presence, complemented by a clear mineral crystal that offers adequate scratch resistance for its intended use.
While the Terra Force excels in its core mission of reliable timekeeping and sustainable power, potential buyers should note its 100m water resistance is suitable for swimming but not for serious diving. The mineral crystal, while durable, is not as scratch-resistant as sapphire, which might be a consideration for those in extremely demanding environments. It is a practical tool watch, not a luxury diver.
This watch is ideally suited for individuals who value practicality, durability, and eco-friendliness in their daily accessories. It serves as an excellent entry point into the world of solar-powered timepieces or as a dependable everyday beater. For those requiring higher water resistance or superior scratch protection, exploring Citizen's Promaster line or models with sapphire crystals might be a worthwhile alternative.
