A 41 mm case sits just right on these wrists. If your wrist is 18.0–19.0 cm, it looks smaller and more understated. If your wrist is 16.0–17.0 cm, it looks bigger and bolder.

All our watch size dataDescription
The quartz digital module at the heart of this Expedition provides reliable timekeeping with chronograph, alarm, and timer functions. Its high-contrast display is legible in various conditions, a core requirement for any instrument intended for outdoor use. The entire package is housed within a 41mm resin case, offering a substantial wrist presence without excess weight.
The case construction prioritises durability and utility. Its grey resin material resists impacts and scratches common in active environments. An acrylic crystal protects the digital display, chosen for its shatter-resistant properties and ease of polishing. The watch delivers a practical water resistance rating across 100 metres, sufficient for swimming and surface water activities.
A green fabric strap secures the watch, complementing its field-ready aesthetic. This single-pass style strap is known for its comfort and quick-drying nature, making it a sensible choice for all-day wear. The lightweight build, coming in at just over 31 grams, ensures the watch remains unobtrusive on the wrist during any activity.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Timex Expedition T49993 suitable for daily swimming and showering?
The Timex Expedition T49993 features 100m water resistance, making it suitable for recreational swimming and snorkelling. However, it is generally advised to avoid wearing it in the shower, as hot water and soap can compromise the seals over time.
What makes the Timex Expedition T49993 a good alternative to other digital watches in its price range?
The Timex Expedition T49993 stands out with its robust resin case, reliable quartz movement, and comprehensive features like a 100-hour chronograph and multiple alarms. Its Indiglo night-light offers superior visibility compared to many competitors, providing excellent value for active users.
What kind of battery does the Timex Expedition T49993 use and how often should it be replaced?
The Timex Expedition T49993 is battery-powered, typical for a quartz digital watch. Battery life can vary based on usage, especially with frequent Indiglo activation. It's recommended to have the battery replaced by a professional watchmaker to ensure water resistance is maintained.
Is the nylon strap on the Timex Expedition T49993 adjustable for different wrist sizes?
Yes, the Timex Expedition T49993 comes with an adjustable 18mm nylon strap that includes genuine leather trim. This strap is designed to comfortably fit a wide range of wrist circumferences, up to 8 inches, ensuring a secure and personalised fit for most users.
Who is the Timex Expedition T49993 most suitable for?
This Timex Expedition T49993 is ideal for men who lead an active lifestyle and require a durable, feature-rich digital watch. Its rugged construction, 100m water resistance, and practical functions like a chronograph and alarms make it perfect for outdoor adventures, sports, and everyday casual wear.
Editor's take
For the person who needs a simple, reliable timekeeper that can handle abuse, the Timex Expedition T49993 presents a strong case. It is not a watch of intricate finishing or mechanical novelty. Instead, it is a purpose-built digital tool, designed to be legible, lightweight, and largely forgotten about until it is needed. Its appeal lies in this very simplicity and its focus on core function over form.
The watch's most notable characteristic is its feather-light durability. The 41mm case is moulded from a tough grey Resin, which absorbs shocks that might damage a steel watch, while the reliable quartz digital module inside is inherently shock-resistant. This combination results in a watch weighing just over 31 grams, making it exceptionally comfortable for sports, yard work, or any demanding physical task.
A key consideration at this price point is the choice of an Acrylic crystal. While it is highly shatter-resistant, it will accumulate scratches more readily than mineral or sapphire glass. Furthermore, the original green Fabric strap connects to an uncommon 17mm lug width, which significantly narrows the field of aftermarket strap replacements should you wish to change the look.
If you can look past the easily marked crystal and limited strap options, this Expedition is an excellent choice for a secondary or beater watch. Its 100m water resistance rating is more than sufficient for daily wear and recreation. It delivers on its promise of being a tough, legible, and affordable digital field watch without any pretence.
