The first thing to weigh when buying is how you actually live with a watch. On a wrist that sees daylight, Tough Solar is effectively maintenance-free, needing only about five minutes of direct sun a day to hold a full charge. That extra headroom lets designers run busier, more closed-off dials and still charge from light leaking through gaps in a date disc. For most buyers, standard Tough Solar remains more than enough, but the Gallium variant points clearly to where the technology is heading.
