Description
The Casio Module 3299 powers a remarkably capable timekeeping instrument. Its primary display presents a world map that highlights the selected time zone, working in concert with the multi-time function for tracking up to four cities. A small, analog-style LCD in the upper left corner provides a familiar at-a-glance reading of home time. This layout prioritises information density and immediate utility for the frequent traveller.
A silver-tone resin case forms the 42mm housing, keeping the total weight to a scant 50 grams for comfortable all-day wear. This lightweight core is matched with a folded-link stainless steel bracelet, lending the watch a visual presence that belies its accessible construction. The watch provides a practical water resistance rating across 100 metres, sufficient for swimming and daily exposure to moisture.
Known affectionately by enthusiasts as the "Casio Royale," this model's distinct aesthetic has earned it a dedicated following since its 2012 release. Its feature set is rounded out by a 1/100-second stopwatch, countdown timer, five daily alarms, and an LED illuminator.

Editor's take
The audience for the AE-1200WHD-1AVEF is broad, spanning from new collectors to seasoned wearers seeking a reliable "grab-and-go" piece. Its appeal lies in a mix of genuine utility, retro-digital design, and an accessible price. The internal Module 3299 delivers functions genuinely useful for travel or coordinating across time zones, making it a practical tool.
Its standout feature is the world time complication. The graphical map provides immediate visual context for the selected time zone, a feature rarely seen with such clarity. While the case is a lightweight Resin construction, it is protected by a pane of Mineral Crystal that offers adequate scratch resistance for daily wear. The design is a clear nod to a specific era of digital watchmaking.
A critical look reveals the necessary compromises. The silver-tone case is resin, not metal, and the bracelet is a folded-link Stainless Steel construction, which feels lighter than solid-link alternatives. The mineral glass is also more prone to scratching than sapphire. These are not flaws but deliberate engineering choices aligned with the watch's market position.
For the enthusiast who appreciates its cinematic association and functional depth, this watch is an easy recommendation. It delivers an outsized amount of character for a minimal investment. As a daily piece or travel companion, the Casio "Royale" offers a distinct ownership experience.
