Editor's take
The Citizen Death Star AW1857-57W is a compelling choice for Star Wars aficionados seeking a daily wear watch that subtly expresses their passion. This model integrates the iconic imagery of the Death Star and TIE Fighters into a robust and reliable timepiece, making it more than just a novelty item but a functional accessory for everyday use.
Technically, the watch is powered by Citizen's proprietary Eco-Drive solar movement, a significant advantage as it eliminates the need for battery changes and ensures consistent operation as long as it's exposed to light. Its 42mm black ion-plated stainless steel case is paired with a durable sapphire crystal, offering excellent scratch resistance and a water resistance of 100 metres, suitable for swimming and showering.
While the themed design is a major draw, some might find the specific aesthetic limits its versatility for formal occasions. It's primarily a casual or sport-oriented watch, and those seeking a more traditional or understated look might consider other options within Citizen's broader lineup.
Ultimately, the AW1857-57W is recommended for collectors and fans who desire a well-built, low-maintenance watch with a strong thematic presence. For those prioritising pure horological innovation over pop culture, a classic Citizen Promaster or a more traditional dress watch might be a better alternative.
