Description
Fitbit Sense is a health and fitness smartwatch for people who want to track their wellbeing and training from one device. It pairs ECG, stress sensing and a skin temperature sensor with a white and gold silicone strap in the Classic style.
Built-in GPS and GLONASS handle outdoor runs without a phone, while a multi-path optical heart rate sensor and IR sensors cover heart rate and SpO2 monitoring. The silicone case and strap use a tang buckle, the display is OLED, and the watch is water resistant to 50 metres.
Daily use is where the Sense makes sense. Battery life reaches up to 6+ days, the speaker and microphone allow voice replies, and seven days of minute-by-minute motion data are stored. It works with iOS 12.2 or higher and Android OS 7.0 or higher over a range of about 30 ft.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I swim with the Fitbit Sense?
Its 50 m water resistance covers pool swimming, showers and rinsing off after a run. It is not built for diving or high-speed water sports, so keep it on the shallow side of water activity. Rinsing the silicone strap with fresh water after chlorine or salt exposure helps it last.
How long does the battery last on a normal week?
Fitbit rates the Sense at up to 6+ days of battery life. In practice, daily GPS workouts and constant notifications will bring that down, so plan on charging a little more often if you run with GPS several times a week.
Will it work with my iPhone or Android phone?
The Sense works with Apple iOS 12.2 or higher and Android OS 7.0 or higher, with a syncing range of up to 30 ft. Music control uses Bluetooth Classic on Android and Bluetooth LE on iOS devices.
Do I need my phone for running with GPS?
No. The Sense has built-in GPS and GLONASS, so it can track pace and route on its own. Your phone is only needed later to sync the data and review the details in the app.
Which health sensors does the Sense have versus a basic fitness band?
Compared with a basic band, the Sense adds ECG, stress sensing, a skin temperature sensor and IR sensors for SpO2 on top of optical heart rate tracking. It suits anyone who wants more health data, while a simpler tracker is the alternative if you only count steps.
Is the silicone strap comfortable for all-day wear?
The white and gold silicone strap with a tang buckle is soft and easy to wipe clean, which suits daily and sport use. The whole watch weighs about 30 g, so most wrists will barely notice it, including during sleep tracking.
Editor's take
Fitbit Sense sits at the health-focused end of the Fitbit range, aimed at people who care more about body metrics than about dial theatrics. It is a smartwatch in the Classic style with a white and gold silicone strap, built for running and general fitness tracking.
The sensor package is the point. An ECG app, stress sensing and a skin temperature sensor sit alongside a multi-path optical heart rate sensor and IR sensors for SpO2 monitoring. Built-in GPS + GLONASS means a run does not need a phone in your pocket, and the OLED display keeps data readable outdoors.
The trade-off is water and wear. With 50 m water resistance it handles pool lengths and showers, but it is not a dive instrument, and the silicone case with a tang buckle is practical rather than refined. Battery life of up to 6+ days is good for a smartwatch, though continuous GPS use will drain it noticeably faster.
It suits runners and health-minded users on iOS 12.2 or higher or Android OS 7.0 or higher. If you want a traditional look and a mechanical movement, a quartz or automatic dress watch is the better route, while the Sense belongs with other GPS fitness smartwatches.
