Description
The Longines HydroConquest is a 44mm sport-styled automatic for wearers who want a substantial Swiss watch for daily use. Its sunray black dial and steel bracelet give it a clean, versatile look.
Inside, the automatic L888 movement drives the hours, minutes, seconds and date. The case is stainless steel with a stainless steel bezel, a sapphire crystal on top and a screw-down case back. The case is 11.9mm thick and the lugs are 22mm wide.
The bracelet closes with a double safety folding clasp, which keeps the watch secure on the wrist. It suits everyday wear, from the office to the weekend, and the five year international warranty adds long-term reassurance.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will the Longines HydroConquest fit a smaller wrist?
The 44mm case and 11.9mm thickness make this HydroConquest a large watch. It sits comfortably on medium to large wrists, while smaller wrists may find the lugs overhang. Consider trying it on first if your wrist is slim.
What movement does it use and what does it display?
It uses the automatic L888 movement, a Swiss automatic. The dial shows hours, minutes, seconds and a date window, so it works as a simple, practical daily watch without extra complications to manage.
Can I swap the bracelet for a strap?
The lug width is 22mm, so most 22mm straps fit this HydroConquest. The stock stainless steel bracelet has a double safety folding clasp, but a leather or rubber strap in 22mm gives the watch a more casual daily look.
Is it suitable for daily sport and office wear?
The stainless steel case, sapphire crystal and screw-down case back suit daily wear well. The sunray black dial looks smart enough for the office, and the robust build handles weekend sport use without trouble.
How is it different from a dress watch with similar looks?
Compared with a slimmer dress watch, this HydroConquest is larger at 44mm, uses a stainless steel bezel and a screw-down case back, and wears in a sportier way. For a slimmer profile, a 38 to 40mm dress model is the alternative.
How should I service the automatic L888 movement?
Automatic watches generally benefit from servicing every five years or so, depending on use. A service centre will check lubrication and seals, and the screw-down case back should be closed properly afterwards.
Editor's take
For anyone who wants a Swiss sports-style automatic with real wrist presence, the HydroConquest is Longines' long-running answer. The 44mm case and sunray black dial point to a daily-wear watch rather than a delicate dress piece.
The automatic L888 movement handles hours, minutes, seconds and date, and a screw-down case back adds to the solid build. A sapphire crystal protects the dial, and the stainless steel case and bezel resist everyday knocks.
The trade-off is size. At 44mm and 11.9mm thick, it will look large on smaller wrists, and slimmer wearers may prefer something closer to 40mm. The listing also gives no water resistance rating, so I would not treat it as a confirmed dive tool.
It suits buyers who want a robust steel bracelet watch with a double safety folding clasp and a 22mm lug width for strap swaps. Within a similar budget, Swiss automatic divers from other brands are the natural alternatives.
