Description
The in-house Orient F6722 calibre provides the reliable engine for this capable sports watch. This modern automatic movement offers both hacking seconds and hand-winding capabilities, features often sought by enthusiasts for precise time-setting. Its consistent performance underpins the watch's utility for daily wear and active use.
A substantial 44mm stainless steel case frames a vibrant blue dial and matching unidirectional bezel. The dial layout prioritises clarity, with large, luminous hands and indices ensuring readability in various lighting conditions. With a screw-down crown and solid case back, the construction delivers a confident 200 metres of water resistance.
Paired with a flexible blue rubber strap, the watch is ready for aquatic environments right out of the box. The material is durable, comfortable, and resistant to the elements, making it a practical choice over a steel bracelet for its intended purpose. The standard 22mm lug width also allows for easy customisation with other strap options.
Frequently Asked Questions
What movement does this watch use and what is its power reserve?
This Orient Sports model is powered by the in-house Calibre F6722 automatic movement, which features both hacking and hand-winding. When fully wound, it provides a power reserve of approximately 40 hours. This reliable Japanese movement is known for its durability and performance.
Is this watch suitable for scuba diving?
With a water resistance rating of 200 metres (20 ATM), this watch is suitable for recreational scuba diving, swimming, and other surface water sports. It is not an ISO 6425 certified professional diver's watch. Always ensure the crown is securely screwed down before any water exposure.
How is the visibility in low light conditions?
The hands and hour markers are coated with a strong luminous material for excellent visibility in dark or low-light environments. After exposure to a light source, the lume glows brightly, allowing for easy time reading. This is a key feature for any sports watch.
How does the 44mm case wear on an average wrist?
A 44mm case offers a modern, substantial presence on the wrist and is best suited for average to larger wrist sizes, typically 7 inches (17.8 cm) or more. The relatively short lugs help it wear comfortably for its size. The flexible rubber strap also ensures a snug and secure fit.
Is this a good gift for a first-time automatic watch owner?
Absolutely. This model is an excellent entry point into mechanical watches due to its reliable automatic movement, robust construction, and versatile style. It offers the charm of a self-winding watch without a high price tag, making it a thoughtful and practical gift.
How often should an automatic watch like this be serviced?
For an automatic movement like the Calibre F6722, a full service is generally recommended every 3 to 5 years to maintain its accuracy and health. This routine maintenance involves cleaning, lubricating, and regulating the movement. Regular servicing ensures the longevity of the timepiece.
Editor's take
The Orient Sports RA-AA0916L is aimed at buyers seeking a dependable and affordable entry into automatic dive-style watches. It works well as a first mechanical piece or a robust weekend watch for someone who values function over fuss. Its 44mm size provides a modern, substantial wrist presence.
The watch's core strength is its mechanical heart, the in-house Orient F6722 automatic calibre. Including both hacking and hand-winding is a significant feature at this price, offering a user experience found in more expensive timepieces. This technical capability establishes a foundation of genuine utility.
A key consideration is the choice of a Mineral Crystal over a sapphire alternative. While the stainless steel case is solid, mineral glass does not offer the same scratch resistance as sapphire. This is a calculated trade-off to maintain its price, but it requires mindfulness during rugged use.
For the enthusiast who accepts the crystal material, this watch delivers strong value. The combination of a workhorse automatic movement and a practical rubber strap makes for a capable package. It is a recommended starting point for a collection or a no-fuss option for daily wear and recreation.
