Orient Mako-3 RA-AA0819N39B, 42mm, Grey Dial, Stainless Steel Bracelet

The Orient F6922 calibre provides the reliable engine for this third-generation Mako, offering both automatic winding and manual hacking capabilities. This Japanese-made movement is a workhorse, known for its durability and straightforward servicing. Its inclusion elevates the watch from a simple accessory to a piece of genuine mechanical timekeeping.

A 41.8mm stainless steel case provides a versatile footprint for a range of wrist sizes, neither too large nor too small for daily wear. The sunburst grey dial offers a dynamic colour proposition, shifting from charcoal to a lighter slate depending on the light. Protecting this display is a flat sapphire crystal, a significant upgrade that provides superior scratch resistance over mineral glass alternatives.

With a screw-down crown and 200 metres of water resistance, the watch is well-equipped for recreational swimming and surface water sports. The unidirectional rotating bezel allows for tracking elapsed time, a fundamental requirement for any dive-style watch. The entire package is secured by a stainless steel bracelet with a folding clasp, completing its tool-watch aesthetic.

The Orient Mako-3, specifically this RA-AA0819N39B reference, continues the brand's tradition of offering immense value in the entry-level automatic dive-style sports watch space. It is a watch for the enthusiast starting their collection or anyone seeking a robust, mechanical daily-wear piece without a significant financial outlay. The in-house Orient F6922 automatic movement, with its hand-winding and hacking functions, is a major draw at this price point.

Where this model truly distinguishes itself from its predecessors and many competitors is the inclusion of a Sapphire Crystal. This material upgrade provides a level of durability and clarity typically found on more expensive watches. The case construction, using a solid Stainless Steel, feels substantial and well-finished for its category, with a balanced mix of brushed and polished surfaces.

While the watch carries a 200-metre water resistance rating, it is important to note that it is not an ISO 6425 certified diver's watch. This is a common distinction for watches in this segment, meaning it is built for water activity but has not undergone the rigorous, independent testing protocol required for the official 'Diver's' designation. The bracelet's pressed clasp, while functional, is another area where costs are clearly managed compared to the milled clasps on higher-tier models.

For the person who appreciates the dive watch aesthetic and requires a dependable automatic for everyday life, this grey sunburst Mako is an excellent choice. It delivers on the core promises of a mechanical sports watch: a reliable movement, strong case construction, and a highly legible dial. The 22.0mm lug width also opens up a world of aftermarket strap options, allowing for easy customisation.
