Description
The Rado Centrix is a Swiss automatic watch built for wearers who like a refined, slightly dressy look with some mechanical character. Its open heart brown dial with guilloche texture and diamond accents suits both men and women.
The round stainless steel case measures 39.5mm across and 11.3mm thick, and it is protected by a sapphire crystal. A Swiss automatic movement drives the watch, and water resistance is rated to 50 metres, which covers splashes and light daily exposure.
The stainless steel bracelet has a 22mm lug width and closes with a foldover clasp. The open heart window lets you see the balance at work, which gives the Centrix a lively dial for a classic dress watch worn through the working week and on evenings out.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I wear the Rado Centrix in the shower or pool?
The Centrix is rated to 50 m, which suits rain, hand washing and brief splashes. Hot showers and swimming are best avoided, since steam and pressure changes can stress the seals over time. For regular water sports a dive-oriented automatic is a better choice.
Is it suitable for daily wear at the office?
Yes, the Centrix works well as a daily watch. The 39.5mm steel case, brown guilloche dial and stainless steel bracelet look smart with business clothes. At 11.3mm thick it may sit under looser cuffs more easily than tight ones.
How does it differ from a quartz Rado?
This model uses a Swiss automatic movement, so it needs no battery and shows the balance through the open heart window. Compared with quartz, it is less precise day to day and needs periodic servicing, but offers a more traditional mechanical experience.
Will it fit a smaller wrist?
At 39.5mm across, the Centrix suits most average wrists, including many women's wrists given its unisex design. The 22mm lug width gives it a solid look, and the steel bracelet can be sized to fit by removing links.
What kind of service does an automatic Centrix need?
A Swiss automatic watch generally benefits from a service every five years or so, covering cleaning and lubrication. Seals should be checked at the same time to keep the 50 m water resistance reliable. There is no battery to replace.
Is the glass scratch resistant?
The Centrix has a sapphire crystal, which is much harder than mineral glass and resists everyday scratches well. It can still chip on a hard knock, so avoid striking the watch against door frames or other hard edges.
Editor's take
Centrix is Rado's dressier line, and this open heart version aims at buyers who want a Swiss mechanical watch that looks good with a suit but is not austere. The unisex 39.5mm proportions fit a wide range of wrists, and the Swiss automatic movement gives it a real mechanical pulse.
The round stainless steel case carries a sapphire crystal, which matters for a watch worn daily because it resists scratching far better than mineral glass. The brown dial with guilloche texture and diamond markers adds depth, and the open heart aperture shows the balance wheel moving.
The main trade-off is the 50 m water resistance. It handles rain and hand washing, but it is not a watch for swimming or sports in water. At 11.3mm thick it also sits a little taller than a slim dress watch, so it may catch under tight cuffs.
I would point it at someone who wants a distinctive, fashionable automatic for office and evening wear, using the foldover clasp bracelet for a clean look. Buyers who want serious water capability should look at a dive-oriented automatic, while those wanting a thinner profile might consider a time-only dress model.
