Frequently Asked Questions
Can I swim or shower with the Seiko 5 Sports SKX GMT SSK019?
Yes, the Seiko 5 Sports SKX GMT SSK019 offers 100 metres of water resistance. This means you can swim and snorkel with your watch. However, it is advisable to avoid environments with extreme hot water vapour, such as hot showers or saunas, to prolong the life of the watch's gaskets.
Does this automatic watch require battery changes or special service?
The Seiko 5 Sports SKX GMT SSK019 features an automatic movement, so it does not require a battery. It stores energy through your wrist's motion or manual winding. For general service, it is recommended to have the water resistance gaskets checked and the movement lubricated every 3-5 years by an authorised service centre.
Who is the Seiko 5 Sports SKX GMT SSK019 suitable for?
This model is ideal for men seeking a stylish and functional automatic GMT watch for daily wear. It is suitable for frequent travellers, individuals working across different time zones, or those who simply appreciate the GMT complication as an aesthetic detail. The 41mm case size comfortably fits most men's wrists.
What is the difference between this watch and other Seiko 5 Sports models?
The primary difference of the Seiko 5 Sports SKX GMT SSK019 is its GMT complication and bi-colour 24-hour bezel. This feature allows you to track a second time zone. Additionally, the use of a more scratch-resistant sapphire crystal is a significant upgrade compared to standard Seiko 5 Sports models.
What is the bracelet width of the watch, and will it fit my wrist?
The lug width of the watch is 22mm, meaning it is compatible with standard 22mm straps. With its 41mm case diameter and metal bracelet, this watch generally offers a comfortable fit for men with wrist sizes between 6.5 and 8 inches. The adjustable bracelet ensures a personalised fit.
How does the GMT feature of this watch work and what is its purpose?
The GMT feature on the Seiko 5 Sports SKX GMT SSK019 allows you to track a second time zone via an independently adjustable 24-hour hand and a bi-colour bezel. This is a highly practical function, especially for those who travel internationally or communicate with people in different time zones, enhancing its sport utility.
Editor's take
The Seiko 5 Sports SKX GMT SSK019 sits in Seiko's 5 Sports line, an automatic sport watch that adds a second time zone to a familiar, hard-wearing formula. It keeps the everyday character that line is known for, then layers a GMT function on top for anyone who tracks time across borders.
The practical core is the automatic movement paired with a two-colour 24-hour GMT bezel, which lets you read a second zone at a glance. A flat Hardlex crystal, Seiko's hardened mineral glass, offers better scratch resistance than ordinary mineral glass, though it is not as hard as sapphire, and the 42.5mm stainless steel case with 100m water resistance is comfortable for office wear, travel, and a swim. The charcoal grey sunburst dial, with red and blue GMT accents, keeps things legible.
There are honest limits. At 100m this is a water-resistant sport watch, not a tool for serious diving, so think pool and snorkel rather than scuba. The GMT here adjusts the 24-hour hand rather than an independently set local hour hand, which is fine for keeping an eye on home time but less convenient for travellers who reset their watch on landing. The metal bracelet is solid and functional without feeling luxurious.
It is a sensible pick if you want a durable automatic with a genuine GMT complication for daily wear, particularly if you already like the Seiko 5 Sports look. If you need deeper water resistance or a quickset local hour, watches such as the Citizen Promaster GMT or the Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 are worth a look in the same price range.
