Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Sekonda Balearic 1702 suitable for daily swimming or showering?
The Sekonda Balearic 1702 offers 50m water resistance, making it suitable for splashes, rain, and handwashing. However, it is not recommended for swimming, showering, or diving, as prolonged water exposure at this rating can compromise its seals.
What type of movement powers the Sekonda Balearic 1702 watch?
This Sekonda Balearic watch is powered by a reliable Japanese quartz movement. This ensures accurate timekeeping with minimal maintenance, as it relies on a battery-powered oscillating crystal rather than mechanical components.
How does the Sekonda Balearic 1702 compare to other sport watches in its price range?
The Sekonda Balearic 1702 stands out with its robust stainless steel case, clear day/date display, and comfortable silicone strap. While many sport watches offer similar water resistance, its British-designed aesthetic and reliable quartz movement provide excellent value for daily wear.
What is the expected battery life for the Sekonda Balearic 1702?
The Sekonda Balearic 1702 is powered by a 377 (SR626SW) silver oxide cell, which typically provides a battery life of up to 2 years. Battery replacement is generally simple and inexpensive, ensuring long-term usability.

Editor's take
The Sekonda Balearic 1702 presents itself as an accessible and practical sport watch, designed for the modern man who values straightforward functionality and a robust build. This model from Sekonda, a brand known for its reliable and affordable timepieces, offers a casual yet refined aesthetic suitable for a variety of daily activities. It positions itself as a dependable everyday companion for those seeking a no-fuss watch.
Underneath its clean exterior, the Balearic 1702 is powered by a precise Japanese quartz movement, ensuring consistent accuracy without the need for manual winding. The watch features a durable 43mm stainless steel case, that provides a substantial presence on the wrist, complemented by a protective mineral glass crystal. Its 50-meter water resistance makes it suitable for everyday splashes and rain, offering peace of mind during routine activities.
While the 50-meter water resistance is adequate for daily wear, it's important to note that this rating is not sufficient for swimming or diving, which might be a limitation for more adventurous users. The absence of a screw-down crown, indicated by the 'Push/Pull Crown' feature, further reinforces its suitability for surface-level water exposure rather than submersion. Those requiring a true dive watch would need to consider models with higher water resistance and ISO certification.
Ultimately, the Sekonda Balearic 1702 is an excellent choice for individuals seeking a reliable, stylish, and low-maintenance sport watch for casual and semi-formal settings. Its combination of a clear day/date display, comfortable silicone strap, and robust construction makes it a strong contender in its price segment. For those prioritizing durability and ease of use over advanced horological complications, this model offers significant value.
