Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Timex Marlin Moon Phase TW2W57100 suitable for swimming or showering?
The Timex Marlin Moon Phase TW2W57100 has a water resistance of 50 metres. This means it can withstand splashes, rain, and brief immersion in water, but it is not recommended for swimming, showering, or any water sports where it might be submerged for extended periods or exposed to high-pressure water.
What kind of movement does this watch use and what are its benefits?
This Timex Marlin watch is powered by a reliable quartz movement. Quartz movements are known for their exceptional accuracy and low maintenance requirements, as they do not need to be wound and typically only require a battery replacement every few years.
How does the acrylic lens compare to sapphire crystal?
The Timex Marlin Moon Phase TW2W57100 features an acrylic lens, which offers a classic, vintage aesthetic and is less prone to shattering than mineral glass. However, acrylic is more susceptible to scratches compared to sapphire crystal, which is highly scratch-resistant.
Who is this watch most suitable for?
This watch is ideal for men who appreciate a blend of classic style and practical complications. Its 40mm stainless steel case and elegant moon phase display make it suitable for both formal and smart-casual occasions, appealing to those seeking a distinctive yet understated timepiece.
What is the typical battery life for the quartz movement in this model?
The quartz movement in the Timex Marlin Moon Phase TW2W57100 is battery-powered. While specific battery life can vary, most quartz watches typically offer a battery life of two to three years before a replacement is needed.
Can I easily change the strap on this Timex Marlin watch?
The Timex Marlin Moon Phase TW2W57100 comes with a brown two-piece leather strap. While the lug width is 20mm, allowing for strap changes, it's always best to consult a professional or ensure you have the correct tools to avoid damaging the watch case or strap.
Editor's take
The Timex Marlin Moon Phase TW2W57100 positions itself as an accessible yet sophisticated dress watch for men who appreciate classic design with a touch of horological charm. Part of the revived Marlin collection, this model brings a vintage aesthetic to the modern wrist, appealing to those seeking a timepiece with character without an exorbitant price tag. Its 40mm stainless steel case and traditional round shape ensure a comfortable and versatile fit for various occasions.
A standout feature of this Marlin model is its quartz movement, offering reliable accuracy and minimal maintenance, a practical choice for daily wear. The captivating moon phase complication at 6 o'clock adds a poetic dimension to the green dial, showcasing Timex's commitment to integrating traditional watchmaking elements into its contemporary offerings. The acrylic lens further enhances its retro appeal, providing a warm distortion that harks back to watches of yesteryear.
While the 50-metre water resistance makes it suitable for splashes and brief immersion, it is not designed for swimming or diving, which is a common limitation for dress watches. The acrylic crystal, while charming, is also more prone to scratches compared to sapphire, requiring a bit more care from the wearer. Those seeking a robust, tool-oriented watch might find these aspects a compromise.
Ultimately, the Timex Marlin Moon Phase TW2W57100 is an excellent choice for individuals looking for an elegant, everyday watch with a distinctive moon phase display. It serves as a stylish entry point into mechanical complications for those on a budget, or as a charming addition to an existing collection. For those prioritising durability and higher water resistance, exploring models with sapphire crystal and a diver's rating would be advisable.
