Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Citizen Weekender BM8186-07E suitable for swimming or showering?
The Citizen Weekender BM8186-07E features 100m water resistance, making it suitable for recreational swimming and showering. However, it is not designed for diving or prolonged underwater activities, so avoid pushing its limits.
What type of movement powers this Weekender field watch?
This Citizen Weekender BM8186-07E is powered by a reliable Japanese quartz movement with Eco-Drive technology. This means it charges from any light source, eliminating the need for battery replacements and offering consistent accuracy for daily use.
How does the BM8186-07E compare to other field watches in its price range?
The Citizen Weekender BM8186-07E stands out with its Eco-Drive light-powered movement, offering superior convenience over traditional battery-powered quartz watches. Its 37mm stainless steel case and 100m water resistance provide a robust build, making it a strong alternative for those seeking a low-maintenance and durable daily watch.
What is the recommended service interval for an Eco-Drive watch like this?
Eco-Drive watches like the Citizen Weekender BM8186-07E generally require very little maintenance. While no regular battery changes are needed, a general check-up every 5-7 years by a qualified watchmaker can ensure the seals and internal components remain in optimal condition for continued water resistant performance.
Is the nylon strap on the Citizen Weekender BM8186-07E interchangeable?
Yes, the nylon strap on the Citizen Weekender BM8186-07E is designed to be interchangeable. With an 18mm lug width, you can easily swap it out for other 18mm straps, allowing you to customize the watch's look to suit different styles or occasions. This makes it a versatile option for any wrist.
Editor's take
The Citizen Weekender BM8186-07E presents itself as an accessible and practical field watch, perfectly suited for individuals who appreciate a no-fuss, reliable timepiece. Its military-inspired design, coupled with Citizen's renowned technology, makes it a strong contender in the entry-level segment for everyday adventurers.
Central to its appeal is the Eco-Drive quartz movement, a hallmark of Citizen's commitment to sustainable watchmaking. This light-powered system ensures the watch runs continuously without the need for battery replacements, offering exceptional convenience. The 37mm stainless steel case is paired with a mineral crystal, providing a robust yet comfortable wear experience, while the 100m water resistance adds to its versatility.
While the mineral crystal offers good scratch resistance for its price point, it is inherently less scratch-resistant than sapphire, which might be a consideration for those in extremely demanding environments. Additionally, the fixed lug width means strap changes are limited to 18mm nylon or similar materials, restricting customization options compared to watches with standard spring bars.
Ultimately, the Weekender BM8186-07E is an excellent choice for students, outdoor enthusiasts, or anyone seeking a dependable, low-maintenance daily beater. For those prioritizing ultimate scratch resistance or a wider array of strap options, exploring models with sapphire crystals or more common lug widths might be worthwhile.
