Description
The TSAR BOMBA Dark Matter is an interchangeable skeleton watch for men who like to change the look of a single piece. The octagonal dial is black and open worked, so the mechanical layers stay in view.
It uses a Japanese Miyota automatic movement with a power reserve of more than 40 hours. The stainless steel case is paired with a sapphire crystal that carries an anti-reflective coating, and water resistance is rated at 50 m.
The set includes a carbon fiber case and a stainless steel case, two crowns and two blue fluoroelastomer straps. That lets the owner mix and match combinations, while the luminous coating keeps the dial readable at night and the soft strap suits all-day wear.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I swim with the Dark Matter?
The TSAR BOMBA Dark Matter is rated to 50 m, or 5ATM, which covers rain, hand washing and a shower. Light swimming in calm water is generally fine, but I would avoid diving, hot water and water sports. Keep the crown pushed in whenever it gets wet.
Is it fine for daily wear at the office and gym?
Yes for the office, and generally for light gym sessions too. The fluoroelastomer strap is soft, hypoallergenic and heat-resistant, which suits sweaty days. The skeleton dial is less legible than a solid one, so quick glances at a meeting may take a moment longer.
How does the Miyota movement differ from a quartz watch?
The automatic Miyota movement is wound by wrist motion rather than a battery, and offers a 40+ hour power reserve. Compared with quartz it is less accurate day to day and sweeps smoothly, but it needs no battery change. If you want grab-and-go reliability, quartz is the alternative.
What comes in the Dark Matter set?
The set includes one mechanical movement, a carbon fiber case and a stainless steel case, two crowns and two fluorocarbon rubber straps. That lets you swap between combinations. It also arrives in a gift box, which makes it easy to give to someone.
Do I need to wind it every day?
Not if you wear it most days. Roughly eight hours on the wrist keeps the Dark Matter running, and its 40+ hour reserve covers a day or two off. After a longer rest it will stop, so give it a few shakes or a light wind before setting the time.
How does the glass hold up to scratches?
The Dark Matter uses sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating, which resists everyday scratches far better than mineral glass. It is not indestructible, so a hard knock can still chip it, but ordinary desk and door-frame contact should leave it clear.
Editor's take
Anyone who likes the idea of owning several looks in one box will find the Dark Matter an interesting proposition. It is a skeleton automatic from TSAR BOMBA built around an interchangeable concept, with an octagonal black dial and a blue strap in the set.
The heart of it is a Japanese Miyota automatic movement with a 40+ hour power reserve, which means a watch worn daily keeps itself wound. Up front sits a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, and the double-sided skeleton design lets you see the mechanical layers working. The case options are stainless steel or carbon fiber, and the straps are fluoroelastomer, a softer material than standard silicone.
The trade-off is water resistance. At 50 m, the Dark Matter copes with rain and splashes, but it is not the watch for serious swimming or water sports, and a diver would want something rated considerably higher. A skeleton dial also tends to be less legible at a glance than a solid dial, even with the luminous coating.
It suits buyers who value variety and a visible movement over outright robustness. For a more traditional, solid-dial automatic at a similar price, a Seiko 5 style watch is a sensible alternative, while anyone wanting the swappable look will find this set hard to match for the money.

Timeless Elegance, Bold Presence
The Dark Matter skeleton dial opens the automatic movement to view beneath a sapphire crystal, so the rotor, bridges and gear train are the main decoration. The stainless steel case gives it real weight on the wrist, while the fluoroelastomer strap keeps it practical for daily wear. It suits those who value mechanical detail over a plain dial.
The perfect choice for a gift for men
For someone who appreciates mechanical watches, the Dark Matter offers a self-winding movement that needs no battery and shows its work through the dial. The 50m water resistance covers splashes and handwashing, and the fluoroelastomer strap resists sweat and wear. It is a considered gift for a collector or a first mechanical watch.
