Powering this Mako is the in-house Orient F6722 automatic movement, a workhorse calibre known for its reliability, hand-winding capability, and hacking seconds function, allowing for precise time synchronisation. The watch is protected by a durable stainless steel case measuring a versatile 40mm in diameter, paired with a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal that ensures excellent legibility and longevity. With a substantial 200-metre water resistance, it is engineered to withstand the rigours of serious surface water sports and marine activities, though it is not rated for saturation diving.

While the Mako 40 mm offers impressive specifications for its price point, potential buyers should note that its bezel is not specified as unidirectional, a common feature on dedicated dive watches for timing elapsed dive time. Additionally, the bracelet, while solid, might not offer the micro-adjustment options found on higher-end dive watch bracelets, which could impact finding the perfect fit for some users. These are minor considerations given the overall value proposition.

This Orient Mako is an ideal choice for individuals seeking a stylish, robust, and reliable automatic watch that can transition seamlessly from daily wear to active weekends. Its unique red dial makes it a standout piece for those who appreciate a touch of colour, while the dependable F6722 calibre ensures accurate timekeeping. For those prioritising a certified dive watch with ISO 6425 compliance, alternatives like the Seiko Prospex line might be worth exploring, but for a versatile and eye-catching everyday diver, the Mako 40 mm is a strong contender.
