Editor's take
The Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra2 positions itself as a formidable contender in the premium smartwatch segment, specifically targeting outdoor enthusiasts and those with an active lifestyle. Building on Samsung's established Galaxy Watch lineage, this model emphasizes durability and advanced functionality, making it a compelling choice for users who push their limits.
Technically, the Ultra2 is impressive, featuring a robust 47mm titanium case and a vibrant digital touchscreen display that reaches up to 5,000 nits of brightness, ensuring readability in any condition. Its 100m water resistance and IP69K rating mean it's built to withstand harsh environments, while the integrated EN13319-certified dive computer app from Mares adds a specialized capability for underwater adventures. Comprehensive health tracking, including Vitals for sleep and heart health, provides actionable insights.
However, a key consideration for potential buyers is its ecosystem compatibility; the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 is primarily designed to pair seamlessly with Android smartphones, potentially limiting its appeal for iOS users. While it offers robust features, those deeply embedded in the Apple ecosystem might find the integration less fluid compared to an Apple Watch Ultra.
Ultimately, the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 is an excellent choice for Android users seeking a high-performance, rugged smartwatch with extensive health and outdoor tracking capabilities. For those prioritising cross-platform compatibility or a different aesthetic, alternatives like Garmin's Fenix series or even a traditional robust field watch might be worth exploring.
