What wrist size is suitable for the Orient Mako GMT?
With a 42.8mm case diameter and a lug-to-lug measurement of 49.5mm, the Orient Mako GMT is designed for average to larger wrist sizes. It typically fits wrists ranging from approximately 6.5 to 8 inches comfortably, offering a substantial presence.
How often should I service my Orient Mako GMT automatic watch?
For optimal performance and longevity, automatic watches like the Orient Mako GMT generally benefit from a service every 3 to 5 years. This includes cleaning, lubrication, and checking the movement's accuracy and water resistance seals.
What is the function of the GMT hand and bezel on this watch?

Editor's take
The Orient Mako GMT RA-BC0005L emerges as a compelling limited edition offering within the brand's popular Mako series, targeting enthusiasts who appreciate a blend of robust dive watch aesthetics and practical GMT functionality. Released as part of Orient's Autumn/Winter 2026 collection, this timepiece is designed for the modern traveler or daily wearer seeking a distinctive watch with a graduated blue dial and a strong presence. It represents Orient's commitment to accessible, in-house mechanical movements.
At its core, the Mako GMT is powered by the in-house Orient F6P22 automatic calibre, a reliable Japanese movement offering both hand-winding and a commendable 40-hour power reserve. The watch features a substantial 316L stainless steel case with a 42.8mm diameter, protected by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. Its 200m water resistance, coupled with a solid caseback and a unidirectional rotating 24-hour GMT bezel, underscores its serious everyday durability.
While the Mako GMT offers impressive specifications for its price point, its 13.4mm case thickness and 49.5mm lug-to-lug measurement might feel quite prominent on smaller wrists, potentially limiting its universal appeal. Furthermore, the 24-hour GMT bezel, while functional for tracking a second time zone, does not provide the traditional elapsed time measurement found on a pure dive watch, which could be a minor drawback for dedicated underwater enthusiasts.
This timepiece is an excellent choice for collectors and frequent travelers seeking a versatile watch that marries classic dive aesthetics with the utility of a GMT complication. Its limited edition status and in-house movement provide significant value. For those prioritizing a robust, distinctive watch with global timekeeping capabilities over pure dive timing, the Orient Mako GMT is a strong contender.
