Description
The Rado DiaStar is one of the brand's best-known designs, and this blue dial version brings its oval case to a wearable 38 mm size. It suits men who want a distinctive automatic with a polished, modern look.
The case is made of stainless steel Ceramos and measures 12.1 mm thick, with a sapphire crystal that carries an anti-reflective coating. The automatic movement drives a date display, and the stainless steel bracelet closes with a foldover clasp. Water resistance is rated at 10 bar, or 100 m.
The scratch-resistant sapphire crystal and the Ceramos case are the details that matter in daily use, since they keep the oval shape looking clean over time. With 100 m water resistance, it handles rain, handwashing and swimming without trouble.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I wear the Rado DiaStar for swimming?
Yes for pool and sea swimming. The Rado DiaStar is rated at 10 bar, equal to 100 m, which covers swimming, showers and rain. It is not a diving instrument, so skip high-pressure activities, and keep the crown pushed in whenever it gets wet.
Is it suitable for daily wear at the office and in sport?
Generally yes. The 38 mm oval case and blue dial look polished with a shirt, and the Ceramos case resists everyday scuffs. At 12.1 mm thick it sits fairly tall, so check that a tight cuff still closes comfortably over it.
Will a 38 mm oval case fit my wrist?
Generally it suits average to slightly larger wrists. The 38 mm case with a 20 mm lug width sits comfortably on most men's wrists, and the oval shape tends to wear a little wider than a round case of the same diameter.
What is the difference between Ceramos and plain steel?
Ceramos is a hard, scratch-resistant case material used by Rado, while plain steel scratches more easily. Together with the sapphire crystal, it keeps the DiaStar looking cleaner over time compared with a standard steel watch.
Does this automatic need a battery or regular service?
No battery is needed, since the automatic movement winds from wrist motion. Mechanical watches generally benefit from servicing every 5 to 7 years, and a service center should also check the water resistance seals periodically.
Who is this Rado a good alternative for versus a round dress watch?
It suits men who want a distinctive shape instead of a classic round dial. Compared with a round dress automatic, it is thicker at 12.1 mm and more design-led, so choose a round model if you want a slimmer profile.
Editor's take
Few designs say Rado as clearly as the DiaStar, and this blue dial automatic keeps the oval silhouette that made the line recognizable. At 38 mm it is a measured size for an oval case, aimed at men who want something visibly different from the round-case crowd.
The case is stainless steel Ceramos, a material choice that fits Rado's long focus on hard, scratch-resistant surfaces. It is paired with a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, which helps legibility on the blue dial under bright light. Inside sits an automatic movement that runs the date display.
The trade-off is thickness: at 12.1 mm the case is not slim, so it will not slide under a tight cuff the way a thin dress watch does. Rated at 10 bar (100 m), it handles swimming and showers, though the foldover clasp on the bracelet offers less fine adjustment than some micro-adjust designs.
It suits buyers who value design identity and a hard-wearing finish over a conventional round layout. If you prefer a slimmer profile, look at round dress automatics in the same price range, and if you want more depth rating, a dedicated diver is the better alternative. The blue dial with the Ceramos case makes this version the most versatile for daily wear.
