Description
The Amazfit T-Rex 3 is a rugged smartwatch built for hikers, runners and anyone who spends long days outdoors. It pairs a 1.5 inch AMOLED screen with a robust stainless steel case and a black silicone strap.
The display reaches a peak brightness of 2,000 nits and includes night mode and Glove Mode. The bezel is 316L stainless steel, the case is stainless steel, and the watch is water resistant to 100 m with freediving support to about 45 m. Navigation relies on dual-band GPS across six satellite systems with free global maps.
Battery life is the standout practical feature: over three weeks of typical use, or up to 180 hours in GPS mode. With more than 170 workout modes and AI-generated training plans, it covers hiking, cycling, swimming, basketball and diving from a single device on a 22 mm strap.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I swim with the Amazfit T-Rex 3?
Yes for swimming. The T-Rex 3 is rated to 100 m, which covers pool and open water swimming and showering. It also supports freediving to about 45 m. It is not meant for scuba with a decompression need, so use a dedicated dive computer for that.
Is it suitable for daily sport and hiking?
Daily sport is where the T-Rex 3 fits best. Its 316L steel bezel handles knocks, and the 2,000 nit AMOLED screen stays readable outdoors. Dual-band GPS and free maps help on trails, and 170 plus workout modes cover running, cycling, hiking and basketball.
How long does the battery last?
The T-Rex 3 typically runs over three weeks on normal use and up to 180 hours in GPS mode. Heavy use with the always-on display and constant tracking shortens that, so expect somewhat less. Charging is needed far less often than on most smartwatches.
Will it fit my wrist and can I change the strap?
The T-Rex 3 uses a 22 mm silicone strap with a buckle, and 22 mm is a very common size, so aftermarket replacements are easy to find. Its rugged case looks largest on slim wrists, so try it on if your wrist is small.
How does it differ from a regular GPS sport watch?
Compared with many sport watches, the T-Rex 3 pairs a very bright AMOLED screen with free global maps, a compass and altitude tools. Alternatives with deeper health analytics exist, but few combine this battery life with a steel bezel at a similar price.
Who is the T-Rex 3 suitable for?
It suits hikers, trail runners, cyclists and swimmers who want navigation and long battery life. It works for men and women with a medium to large wrist. Anyone wanting a dress watch or a mechanical movement should look elsewhere.
Editor's take
Amazfit's T-Rex line has always targeted people who want a tough outdoor companion without a premium price, and the T-Rex 3 continues that idea with a 1.5 inch AMOLED screen and a black silicone strap on 22 mm lugs. It is aimed at hikers, trail runners and multisport users rather than dress-watch buyers.
The technical highlights are practical ones. A 316L stainless steel bezel frames the display, which reaches 2,000 nits, and dual-band GPS across six satellite systems keeps positioning accurate in tricky terrain. Battery life is the real strength, with over three weeks of typical use and up to 180 hours in GPS mode.
The trade-off is the nature of the product. Rated to 100 m, it suits swimming and freediving to about 45 m, but it is not a dive computer in the technical sense, and a smartwatch will never offer the decades-long service life of a mechanical movement. The buckle closure is simple and secure, though less refined than a metal bracelet clasp.
It suits outdoor enthusiasts who want maps, training plans and long battery life in one device. Buyers who prefer a traditional wristwatch should look at a field watch, whilst those wanting deeper health features may compare it with other GPS sport watches.
