Editor's take
The Garmin Approach S50 represents a focused evolution in golf-specific wearables, catering to players who demand precise data and smart functionality on the course. This 43mm smartwatch, with its robust anodised aluminium case and comfortable nylon strap, is designed for both performance and daily wear, offering a seamless transition from the green to everyday life.
At its core, the S50 features a brilliant 1.2-inch AMOLED display that vividly presents over 43,000 preloaded golf courses. Its integrated GPS functionality provides accurate distances to hazards, greens, and doglegs, while the Playslike Distance feature intelligently adjusts yardage for elevation changes. Beyond golf, comprehensive health tracking, including wrist-based heart rate monitoring, stress, and Body Battery, offers valuable insights into the user's overall well-being.
While the Approach S50 excels in its dedicated golf features and smart connectivity, it is important to note that its battery life, though impressive for a smartwatch (up to 10 days), will require regular charging, unlike a traditional quartz or mechanical timepiece. The 50m water resistance is suitable for rain and splashes but not for extended swimming or diving, which might be a consideration for users seeking a more versatile sports watch.
This smartwatch is an excellent choice for dedicated golfers who prioritise detailed course mapping, performance metrics, and integrated health tracking. For those who might also seek a watch for serious aquatic activities or prefer the set-it-and-forget-it nature of a long-lasting battery, exploring other Garmin models or dedicated dive watches might be a suitable alternative.
