The Sekonda 1171.27 is powered by a precise Japanese quartz movement. This ensures accurate timekeeping and requires minimal maintenance, typically only a battery replacement every couple of years.
How does this watch compare to other watches in its price range?
The Sekonda 1171.27 stands out with its British-designed classic aesthetic and reliable Japanese quartz movement. It offers a practical date display and 50m water resistance, providing good value for everyday versatility compared to many basic fashion watches.

The mineral glass on the Sekonda 1171.27 offers good resistance against scratches and impacts from typical daily activities. While not as scratch-proof as sapphire, it provides reliable protection for general use.
What wrist size is suitable for this 42mm watch?

Editor's take
The Sekonda 1171.27 presents itself as a straightforward and accessible timepiece, perfectly suited for individuals seeking a reliable daily companion without excessive frills. This model from Sekonda, a brand known for its value-driven offerings, caters to a broad audience looking for a blend of traditional aesthetics and modern practicality in a men's watch.
At its core, the 1171.27 relies on a dependable Japanese quartz movement, ensuring excellent accuracy and minimal need for winding or adjustments. The 42mm stainless steel case provides a comfortable presence on the wrist, complemented by a robust mineral glass that offers good scratch resistance for everyday wear. Its 50-metre water resistance rating makes it capable of handling splashes and brief immersion.
While the 50m water resistance is adequate for daily activities and even swimming, it falls short of the ISO 6425 standard required for serious diving, meaning it's not an instrument for underwater exploration. Furthermore, the absence of a sapphire crystal, common in higher-priced watches, might be a consideration for those prioritising ultimate scratch protection.
This Sekonda is an excellent choice for first-time watch buyers or those needing a versatile, low-maintenance watch for work and casual outings. For enthusiasts seeking more intricate mechanical movements or advanced water resistance, exploring models with automatic calibres or higher WR ratings would be a logical next step.
