Editor's take
The Sekonda Thomson 3697.27 positions itself as an accessible and reliable everyday timepiece for the discerning gentleman. Its British design ethos emphasises understated style and practical functionality, making it a solid choice for those seeking a dependable watch without a hefty price tag. This model, released in 2008, continues Sekonda's tradition of offering quality watches to a broad audience.
Under the hood, the Thomson 3697.27 relies on a robust Japanese quartz movement, known for its accuracy and low maintenance requirements. The 36mm metal case is paired with a mineral crystal, providing a balance of durability and cost-effectiveness. While its 50m water resistance is adequate for daily splashes, it's important to note this is not a dive watch and should be kept away from prolonged water exposure.
One potential drawback for some users might be the relatively small 36mm case size, which, while classic, may feel diminutive on larger wrists compared to modern trends. Additionally, the mineral glass, while scratch-resistant, does not offer the superior clarity or scratch protection of sapphire, a common upgrade in higher-priced watches.
Ultimately, the Sekonda Thomson 3697.27 is best suited for individuals who appreciate a classic, minimalist aesthetic and prioritise reliability and value. It serves as an excellent entry-level dress or everyday watch, particularly for those with average to smaller wrist sizes. For users requiring greater water resistance or a larger presence, exploring dedicated sport watches or models with sapphire crystals would be a logical next step.
