Editor's take
The Timex Time Machines T72881 is a charming entry-level timepiece specifically designed for young horology enthusiasts, blending playful aesthetics with practical functionality. Part of the Time Machines collection, this watch aims to make learning to tell time an engaging experience for children. Its compact 29mm resin case is perfectly sized for smaller wrists, ensuring comfort and durability for everyday adventures.
A key highlight of this model is its educational focus. The clear white dial features distinct minute markers, simplifying the process of reading time for beginners. The whimsical rotating graphic serving as a second hand adds a fun element, keeping children entertained whilst they learn. Powered by a reliable quartz movement, the T72881 offers consistent accuracy without the need for winding, a practical choice for a child's first watch.
While the 30m water resistance is sufficient for splashes and brief immersion, it is important to note that this watch is not designed for swimming or bathing. The plastic crystal, though durable against minor impacts, may be more prone to scratching compared to mineral or sapphire glass found in more expensive adult watches. This is a trade-off for its child-friendly design and accessible price point.
Ultimately, the Timex Time Machines T72881 is an excellent choice for parents seeking a robust, educational, and fun watch for their children. It serves as a fantastic introduction to timekeeping, prioritising readability and durability. For those seeking a watch for more rigorous water activities, a model with higher water resistance would be a more suitable alternative.
