Description
The Amazfit T-Rex Ultra 2 is a rugged GPS smartwatch built for hikers, cyclists, swimmers and divers who want a long-lasting outdoor companion. It combines a bright AMOLED display with preloaded maps and route tools for trail and city navigation.
The watch carries a 1.5 inch AMOLED screen under sapphire glass, with a lightweight titanium build and a stainless steel strap with buckle closure. Water resistance is rated at 10 ATM, or 100 meters, and the octagonal case supports multisport tracking, an always on display and scratch resistance.
Battery life is the headline here: typical use reaches 30 days, and the extreme power saving GPS mode stretches to 90 hours. A built-in flashlight with white and green modes and a pulse SOS setting adds safety, while the speaker and microphone handle Bluetooth calls on the wrist.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I swim with the T-Rex Ultra 2 in the ocean or a pool?
Yes, the Amazfit T-Rex Ultra 2 is rated to 10 ATM, or 100 m, so pool laps, ocean swims, snorkeling and surfing are fine. It is also suited to recreational scuba diving. It is not a technical dive computer, so keep deeper or decompression dives for a dedicated unit.
How long will it last between charges on a hiking trip?
Typical use delivers up to 30 days of battery life, and the extreme power saving GPS mode reaches up to 90 hours of tracking. For multi-day hikes that usually means leaving the charger at home, although heavy use of calls, the flashlight and the always on display will shorten those figures.
Is it suitable for daily wear at the office as well as sport?
The octagonal titanium case and stainless steel strap look rugged, so it reads as a sports watch more than a dress piece. It is comfortable enough for everyday wear, and the bright AMOLED display shows notifications clearly, but formal settings may call for something slimmer.
How does it compare with a regular fitness band for navigation?
Unlike most bands, the T-Rex Ultra 2 carries preloaded color maps, route planning with checkpoints and automatic rerouting. Those tools make it versus a basic tracker a true navigation device. If you only need step counting, a cheaper alternative will do, but trail users will value the maps.
Can I take phone calls and use voice replies on the watch?
Yes, the built-in speaker and microphone let you take Bluetooth calls from your wrist. You can also use the Zepp Flow AI assistant to reply to Android messages by voice and hear training and navigation alerts through the speaker. It is worth noting the voice reply feature is described for Android phones.
What does the built-in flashlight do and how do I service the watch?
The flashlight switches between bright white and night vision green light, and a pulse SOS flashing mode helps you be seen in an emergency. For care, rinse it with fresh water after salt water use and keep the buckle and sensors clean so the watch stays reliable.
Editor's take
Amazfit's T-Rex line has long targeted people who treat a watch as outdoor equipment, and the T-Rex Ultra 2 pushes that idea toward expedition territory. It pairs a titanium build with a sapphire crystal and an octagonal case, a look closer to a tool than to jewelry.
The feature that matters most is endurance. A typical use battery life of 30 days and up to 90 hours in the extreme power saving GPS mode means multi-day hikes without a charger. The AMOLED screen stays legible in direct sun, and the preloaded color maps with automatic rerouting make it genuinely useful on trail.
The trade-off is rating. At 10 ATM it handles pool swimming, snorkeling and recreational scuba, but it is not a technical dive computer, and anyone planning deeper or decompression dives should look at a dedicated unit. The stainless steel strap with buckle closure also adds weight compared with a silicone option, which some wrists will notice on long runs.
It suits hikers, cyclists and multisport athletes who value battery life over slim styling. For a more discreet everyday smartwatch, an Apple Watch or Garmin Venu class model is the natural alternative, while the T-Rex Ultra 2 is the pick for rougher terrain.

From the manufacturer
47.1mm Titanium Alloy Case
The A2550 uses a 47.1mm titanium alloy case, which keeps weight down while resisting corrosion and daily knocks. It is a large format, but one that sits with the proportions expected from a purpose-built outdoor instrument.
Sapphire Crystal Face
A sapphire crystal covers the display and rates 9 on the Mohs scale, so it holds up against scratches from rock, gravel and door frames. Clarity remains consistent under direct sun, which matters for reading data on the trail.
Rated to 100 Meters
Water resistance is rated to 100 meters, suitable for swimming, snorkeling and surface water sports. As with any sealed case, regular rinsing after salt water exposure helps preserve the gaskets and pushers over the long term.
Quartz-Based Smart Platform
Timekeeping here is electronic rather than mechanical, so accuracy is held by quartz-grade precision and synchronized through satellite and phone connection. That removes the need for regular regulation and keeps the watch correct across time zones.
Stainless Steel Strap
The stainless steel strap pairs with the titanium case for a rugged, metal-forward look and a secure fit during activity. Steel adds some heft compared with a silicone option, but it resists sweat, abrasion and temperature swings very well.
Built for Field Use
Reference A2550 combines a large titanium case, sapphire glass and 100 meter sealing into a single field-ready package. It suits hikers, divers and trail runners who want a durable smart watch with the construction details a watch enthusiast would check first.
