Description
The Longines HydroConquest 41mm is a Swiss automatic sports watch with a sunray blue dial and a ceramic bezel. It suits wearers who want a refined everyday watch with a sporting character and a bracelet that is comfortable to wear.
Inside the 41mm stainless steel case runs the automatic L844 movement, which shows hours, minutes, seconds and date. A sapphire crystal protects the dial, and the screw-down case back adds to the sturdy construction. The case is 12.9mm thick with a 21mm lug width.
The standout detail is the 24-hour hand with a time zone mechanism, which lets you track a second time zone without extra pushers. The stainless steel bracelet closes with a double security folding clasp that offers micro adjustment, so the fit can be fine-tuned through the day. A 5-year international warranty accompanies the watch.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will the HydroConquest fit a 7 inch wrist?
A 41mm case with a 21mm lug width generally suits wrists from about 6.5 to 8 inches. The Longines HydroConquest is 12.9mm thick, so it sits a little tall on smaller wrists. The bracelet clasp has micro adjustment, which helps fine-tune the fit during the day.
Is this good for daily wear at the office?
The Longines HydroConquest works well for daily use because the sapphire crystal and ceramic bezel resist scratches. The sunray blue dial reads as smart under a cuff, though the 12.9mm thickness may catch on tight sleeves. It also handles weekend sport wear comfortably.
How does the 24-hour hand work?
The extra hand makes one full turn every 24 hours and is read against the 24-hour scale, so you can follow a second time zone. The time zone mechanism is built into the Longines HydroConquest, so no extra pushers are needed. It takes a short time to learn to read.
What movement does it use and how often does it need service?
It uses the automatic L844 movement, which shows hours, minutes, seconds and date. Automatic watches generally benefit from a service every five years or so, depending on use. A professional service centre can also check the seals during that visit.
Can I swim with it or wear it in the shower?
Because the screw-down case back and ceramic bezel are designed for sport use, the watch suits light water exposure, though no water resistance rating is listed here. For swimming, check the rating on the case back before use. Rinsing the bracelet after salt exposure is also sensible.
How does it compare with a dress watch of similar price?
Compared with a slim dress watch, the Longines HydroConquest is thicker and more robust, with a ceramic bezel and screw-down case back. It also adds a second time zone hand. A dress watch is the better pick if you want a slim profile under a cuff.
Editor's take
Longines built the HydroConquest as its sporting line, and this 41mm version with a sunray blue dial is a tidy interpretation of that idea. It is aimed at someone who wants a Swiss automatic that works at the office and at the weekend, on a full steel bracelet. The sunray blue dial changes with the light and keeps the face lively without extra decoration.
The heart of the watch is the L844 automatic movement, which drives hours, minutes, seconds and date, plus a 24-hour hand with time zone mechanism for a second time zone. The stainless steel case is protected by a sapphire crystal and a ceramic bezel, a combination that resists scratches well. A screw-down case back adds to the solid construction.
The main trade-off is size and weight: at 12.9mm thick, it sits taller on the wrist than a slim dress piece and will catch a tight shirt cuff. The 24-hour hand also needs a moment to learn, since it is read against the main dial rather than a dedicated GMT scale. Anyone who wants a very thin watch should look at a dress model instead.
It suits buyers who like a sporty Swiss watch with a refined finish and a bracelet that adjusts through the double security folding clasp with micro adjustment. At this level, alternatives include other Swiss steel sports watches with automatic movements, though few combine a ceramic bezel and a second time zone hand so neatly.
