Frequently Asked Questions
How deep can I dive with the Orient Mako 40 RA-AC0Q15Y30B?
The Orient Mako 40 offers 200 meters (20 bar) of water resistance. This means you can confidently use your watch for swimming, snorkeling, and recreational diving. However, for professional deep-sea diving, an ISO 6425 certified dive watch is generally recommended.
What movement powers this watch and what is its power reserve?
The Orient Mako 40 is powered by the brand's in-house Calibre F6722 automatic movement. This reliable mechanism features manual winding and hacking seconds for precise time setting, offering over 40 hours of power reserve when fully wound. This ensures the watch is suitable for daily wear.
Is the Orient Mako 40 resistant to magnetic fields?
The Orient Mako 40 does not specify any special anti-magnetic protection. Like most mechanical watches, prolonged exposure to strong magnetic fields can affect the watch's accuracy. It is advisable to keep your watch away from powerful magnetic sources to maintain its performance.
What wrist size is suitable for this dive watch?
The Orient Mako 40 is designed with a 39.9mm case diameter and a 46.5mm lug-to-lug span. These dimensions generally provide a comfortable and balanced presence on wrists ranging from approximately 6.5 to 8 inches (16.5 cm to 20 cm), making it suitable for many individuals.
How often should the Orient Mako 40 be serviced?
For optimal performance of an automatic watch like the Orient Mako 40, a general service is typically recommended every 3 to 5 years. Annual checks of the water resistance seals and their replacement if necessary are crucial to maintain the watch's stated water resistance over time.
How does this watch compare versus other dive watches in its price range?
The Orient Mako 40 stands out with its in-house Calibre F6722 automatic movement, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, and distinctive brown dial. While many competitors in this price segment feature mineral glass, the Mako 40's sapphire crystal and proprietary movement make it a compelling alternative for enthusiasts.
Editor's take
The Orient Mako 40 RA-AC0Q15Y30B represents a modern take on Orient's esteemed dive watch heritage, offering a versatile model suitable for daily wear. This timepiece is designed for both underwater adventures and urban life, providing high performance at an accessible price point.
At the heart of this watch lies Orient's in-house Calibre F6722 automatic movement. This reliable mechanism features manual winding and hacking seconds for precise time setting, boasting over 40 hours of power reserve. The scratch-resistant sapphire crystal and 200 meters of water resistance further enhance the watch's durability and resilience.
While the Mako 40's 39.9mm case diameter fits many wrists comfortably, it might feel a bit small for those who prefer larger, more imposing dive watches. Additionally, while the SUS316L stainless steel bracelet is robust, some users might expect a more premium feel from the clasp mechanism. This model functions more as a durable sports watch suitable for daily wear rather than an ISO-certified professional diver.
This watch is an excellent choice for anyone seeking an affordable, reliable, and stylish dive watch. The aesthetic appeal of the brown dial, in particular, sets it apart from other dive watches in a similar price range. If you are looking for a more technical diving instrument or a larger case, alternatives like the Seiko Prospex series might be worth considering.
