Editor's take
The GOLDEN HOUR CH-1604M-B-GY positions itself as an accessible and stylish quartz chronograph for the everyday man. It blends a classic aesthetic with practical features, making it a solid choice for those entering the world of multi-function timepieces without a significant investment. Its design cues suggest a watch that can transition smoothly from office environments to more casual settings.
At its core, this watch relies on a dependable Japanese quartz movement, known for its accuracy and minimal maintenance requirements. The inclusion of a 304 stainless steel case and a hardlex crystal provides a reasonable level of durability against daily wear and tear. The three sub-dials offer chronograph functionality alongside a date display, enhancing its utility.
While the 30-metre water resistance is suitable for splashes, it falls short for swimming or showering, which is a common limitation in this price segment. Enthusiasts seeking robust water performance might need to consider alternatives with higher ratings. The crystal markers on the dial, while decorative, might not offer the same legibility as traditional indices in all lighting conditions.
Overall, the CH-1604M-B-GY is recommended for individuals seeking a budget-friendly, stylish chronograph for daily wear. It serves as an excellent entry point into chronograph watches, offering a blend of classic design and practical features. For those prioritising advanced water resistance or a more premium build, exploring dive watches or higher-end chronographs would be advisable.
