Description
Orient's in-house F6922 automatic calibre provides the reliable engine for the Kamasu. This modern movement offers both hacking seconds and manual winding capabilities, allowing for precise time-setting and ensuring the watch remains powered even when off the wrist for a day.
The 42mm stainless steel case provides a substantial but wearable presence, secured by a screw-down crown that helps deliver a solid 200 meters of water resistance. A significant upgrade for this collection is the flat sapphire crystal, which delivers exceptional clarity and durability against scratches far exceeding that of mineral glass.
Functionality extends to the 120-click unidirectional rotating bezel, a critical tool for timing dives or other events. On the black dial, applied indices filled with a generous application of luminous material ensure excellent legibility in low-light conditions. The distinct day and date window at three o'clock completes the practical layout.
Frequently Asked Questions
How deep can I go with the Orient Kamasu RA-AA0001B19B?
The Orient Kamasu RA-AA0001B19B offers 200 meters of water resistance, making it suitable for recreational scuba diving and serious water sports. It is designed to withstand significant underwater pressure, ensuring reliability during your aquatic adventures.
What type of movement does this watch use?
This Orient Kamasu model is powered by an in-house automatic movement. This means it winds itself through the motion of your wrist, eliminating the need for a battery. It also features a day-date complication for added utility.
Is the Kamasu resistant to magnetic fields?
While the Orient Kamasu RA-AA0001B19B is a robust dive watch, it does not feature specific enhanced anti-magnetic shielding like some specialized watches. It should perform well in typical daily environments, but strong magnetic fields should be avoided.
How often should I service my Orient Kamasu?
For optimal performance and longevity, it's generally recommended to have an automatic watch like the Orient Kamasu serviced every 3 to 5 years. This includes cleaning, lubrication, and checking the water resistance seals to ensure continued reliability.
What wrist sizes does the Orient Kamasu RA-AA0001B19B fit?
With its 42mm case size, the Orient Kamasu RA-AA0001B19B typically fits a wide range of men's wrist sizes, generally from 6.5 to 8 inches comfortably. The stainless steel bracelet can be adjusted by removing links for a perfect fit.
How does the Kamasu compare to other dive watches in its price range?
The Orient Kamasu RA-AA0001B19B stands out with its sapphire crystal and in-house automatic movement, features often found in more expensive dive watches. Its robust build and classic design offer excellent value compared to many alternatives, making it a strong contender for daily wear and diving.
Editor's take
The F6922 calibre signals the Kamasu's intent as a serious entry into mechanical watch ownership. It is built for the enthusiast who values in-house manufacturing and modern automatic movement features, but who also requires a timepiece that can withstand daily wear. This model has become a benchmark for affordable divers.
Where the Kamasu truly distinguishes itself is its use of a Sapphire Crystal. In a segment often dominated by mineral glass, this choice provides a level of scratch resistance typically reserved for more expensive watches. The durability extends to the robust case, which feels solid and well-proportioned on the wrist.
To meet its accessible price point, compromises are most evident in the bracelet. The Stainless Steel bracelet uses a simple stamped clasp, which lacks the refined feel of fully milled hardware. While functional, many owners find that upgrading the strap unlocks the watch's full potential.
Despite the bracelet, the core value is undeniable. It delivers a robust automatic diver with 200-meter water resistance and a premium crystal. While not an ISO 6425 certified diver, it is more than capable for recreational water sports. For a first mechanical watch, the RA-AA0001B19B is an exceptionally sound choice.
