Casio AQ230A-7BT, 30mm, White Dial, Silver Metal Bracelet

The AQ230A presents a distinctively late-1980s profile with its rectangular case and integrated bracelet design. Measuring a very discreet 29.8mm across, it offers a wearing experience that is both comfortable and unobtrusive, recalling an era before oversized watches became the norm. The white dial provides a clean backdrop for the simple analogue hands, ensuring legibility at a glance.

Beneath the analogue display, a small digital screen provides a suite of useful functions powered by the reliable Calibre 3321 quartz movement. This secondary display can be configured to show a second time zone, making it a practical tool for travellers. It also includes a 1/100-second stopwatch, a daily alarm, and an hourly time signal, packing considerable utility into its small frame.

The case and bracelet are constructed from stainless steel, giving the watch a solid feel and a polished look that belies its accessible positioning. The crystal is made from acrylic, a material choice consistent with its vintage-inspired design that offers excellent shatter resistance and can be easily polished.

For the enthusiast seeking a break from the 40mm-plus standard, this Casio offers a return to the compact proportions of the 1980s. Its slim, rectangular form factor wears well on a wide range of wrists. The watch is powered by the workhorse Calibre 3321, a Japanese quartz module providing core ana-digi functionality.

The primary draw is the integrated aesthetic, where the case lines flow directly into the multi-link bracelet. This cohesive design, executed in stainless steel, gives the watch a unified, architectural presence. The choice of an acrylic crystal is another nod to its vintage roots, providing a warm view at sharp angles.

Prospective owners should be mindful of the watch's intended environment. Its water resistance is sufficient for incidental contact with water, but with a rating of only 30 metres, it is not suited for submersion. The bracelet connects to the case via a standard 18.0 mm lug width, though the integrated look is central to its appeal.

Ultimately, the AQ230A-7BT succeeds as a piece of accessible design history. It delivers a strong dose of retro style backed by useful features like a dual time display and stopwatch. For those who understand its limitations, it represents an intelligent and enjoyable addition to any rotation.
