On Amazon UK, only 54 of the 386 watches at £50 or less give a rating of 100 metres or more in the technical details or title of their listing; among the 443 watches between £50 and £100, the figure is 111. If you are going to swim, 30 metres is not enough; look for 100. Are these watches waterproof?

Watches are described as water resistant rather than waterproof, and the figure in a listing is a water resistance rating, not a depth you can dive to: 30 metres copes with rain and hand-washing, 100 metres with swimming. Our water resistance guide explains each rating step by step.

Is Amazon UK cheaper than Amazon US?

We measured this too. Across the 1,010 watches we track on all three Amazon sites, the UK price is a median 26 per cent above the US price, but UK prices include 20 per cent VAT and US prices do not include sales tax. Take the VAT out and the gap falls to 5 per cent. On cheap watches the gap is much wider: for watches under $50 in the US, it is 15 per cent without VAT.

Ordering from the US does not get you out of the VAT: according to GOV.UK, on orders of £135 or less the seller collects it at checkout and there is no customs duty, but international shipping comes on top. On a £100 watch, what is left of the difference will hardly cover the shipping, so on this budget I would buy from Amazon UK. What should I look for when buying a watch on Amazon UK?

Look at the seller first: the Amazon product page says who is selling, and if it is not Amazon, the returns and warranty terms can depend on the seller. In the UK you can cancel an online order within 14 days without giving a reason; if the watch turns out to be faulty, the Consumer Rights Act also gives you 30 days to reject it, and for the first six months a fault is presumed to have been there from the start.

The US comparison uses the prices of the 1,010 watches sold on all three sites in the same week, converted at the European Central Bank reference rates of 21 October 2026, with VAT taken out by dividing by 1.20.
