Do Invicta, Casio and Timex watches need batteries? Nearly all do. On 23 October 2026, more than nine in ten Invicta and Timex watches we track in stock on Amazon UK ran on a replaceable battery, as did 151 of 154 Casios. The exceptions are automatics (23 Invictas and 5 Timexes) and solar watches (3 Casios and 5 Timexes).

Key takeaways

  • Of the watches we track in stock on Amazon UK, 297 of 321 Invicta, 151 of 154 Casio and 174 of 186 Timex watches run on a replaceable battery.
  • Every Orient we track in stock on Amazon UK (99 of 99) and 14 of 16 Seikos skip the routine battery change, but across all 1,577 watches only 250 do.
  • Solar watches such as the Casio AQ-S820W and the Timex Expedition North Field Post Solar store light in a rechargeable cell, so there is no routine battery change; look for Solar in the title or the Movement line, because the Power Source line alone can be wrong.

Do Invicta, Casio and Timex watches have batteries?

Nearly all do, going by the watches we track at Bravery Watch on Amazon UK. More than nine in ten Invictas and Timexes run on a replaceable battery, and so do all but 3 Casios, while Orient and Seiko are the other way round.

If skipping battery changes matters more than the brand, Orient and Seiko are the safer bet: every one of Orient's 99 watches and 14 of Seiko's 16 skip it. Our picks, from all brands:

A quartz watch needs its battery to keep a tiny crystal vibrating, and stops when it runs out. Our quartz category lists them.

Which watch brands on Amazon UK use batteries?

These are the brands with the most watches we track in stock on Amazon UK, plus Fossil, Seiko and Citizen. "No battery change" counts automatic, hand-wound, solar and Kinetic watches.

For 10 of these watches (5 Guess, 2 Timex, 2 Ravel and 1 Bulova) the title and spec table don't name a power source, so they are in none of the columns. Invicta, Timex, Casio, Ravel and Sekonda are nearly all battery, Ravel's one exception being a hand-wound pocket watch, while 24 of Bulova's 68 watches are automatics.

Do Invicta watches have batteries?

Most do. Of the 321 Invicta watches we track in stock on Amazon UK, 297 are battery quartz, 23 are automatics and 1 is the I-Tech smartwatch. The Pro Diver name doesn't settle it: of the 99 Pro Divers in stock, 82 are quartz and 17 automatic, and one listing says Automatic in its title but quartz in its Movement line, so check both before you buy.

If I wanted an Invicta that never needs a battery, I'd buy the Invicta Pro Diver 8929OB: a 40 mm steel case, a gold-tone steel bracelet, an automatic movement and 200 metres of water resistance in its listing, at £100 to £200. Only 4 of the 23 automatic Invictas with a current price are under £100; our Pro Diver buying guide goes through the range.

Do Casio watches need batteries?

Nearly all do: 151 of the 154 Casio watches we track in stock. The 3 exceptions all charge from light, and 2 of them are in stock with a current price. The Casio MTP-S110 is a 42 mm steel analogue watch on a resin strap whose listing says solar-powered and 100 metres, at £100 to £200. The solar Casio AQ-S820W has analogue and digital displays, a resin case, 100 metres of water resistance and world time, at £50 to £100.

Watch the Power Source line: on 9 basic analogue Casios such as the LTP-V007 it says Solar Powered while the Movement line says quartz, and we counted them as battery watches. For a solar Casio, look for Solar in the title or the Movement line, as on the MTP-S110 and the AQ-S820W, not in the Power Source or features lines; one basic MTP-V005L listing calls itself "Radio controlled, Solar powered" in its features line and runs on a battery.

If you would rather forget about the battery, the Casio AE1500WH has 10-Year Battery in its title, a 51.2 mm resin case, five alarms and 100 metres of water resistance, for under £50; our best Casio watches guide has more.

Do Timex watches have batteries?

Most do. Of the 186 Timex watches we track in stock, 174 run on a replaceable battery, 5 are automatics, all priced above £100, and 5 are solar; the listings of the other 2 don't say.

Two of the solar ones say Solar in their titles: the Timex Expedition North Field Post Solar, with a 41 mm steel case, sapphire crystal and 100 metres of water resistance, and the smaller Timex Expedition Field Post Solar, 36 mm with sapphire crystal and 100 metres; both cost £100 to £200. The other three, two Expedition Gallatin listings and the Expedition North Freedive Ocean, say Solar Powered only in the Power Source line, and other retailers sell both models as solar; the 45 mm Timex Expedition Gallatin has a resin case, a nylon strap and 50 metres of water resistance, at £50 to £100.

Do Sekonda watches have batteries?

Yes, or they need charging. Of the 92 Sekonda watches we track in stock on Amazon UK, 86 are battery quartz and 6 are smartwatches that you charge; we track no automatic or solar Sekonda. Which battery a Sekonda takes depends on the model, and the cell number is printed on the old battery itself. As on most quartz watches, a battery usually lasts a few years.

Do Guess, Tommy Hilfiger and Fossil watches have batteries?

Guess and Tommy Hilfiger watches do. Of the 208 Guess watches we track in stock, 203 run on a battery and the listings of the other 5 don't say; all 38 Tommy Hilfiger watches run on a battery. Of the 18 Fossil watches, 17 do; the exception is the automatic Fossil Townsman, with a skeleton dial, a leather strap and 50 metres of water resistance, at £100 to £200. Its listing gives two case sizes, 44 mm in the spec table and 48 mm in the title, so check before you order; UK consumer law lets you cancel an online order within 14 days.

Do Seiko and Orient watches have batteries?

Mostly not. Of the 16 Seiko watches we track in stock on Amazon UK, 12 are automatics, 1 is solar, 1 is a Kinetic and only 2 take a battery. The Seiko 5 SNXS77K is a 37 mm steel automatic with Hardlex crystal and 30 metres of water resistance, at £100 to £200: fine for rain, not for swimming, as our water resistance guide explains.

The Seiko SKA791P1 is the Kinetic: the movement of your wrist charges a rechargeable cell that runs a quartz movement. It has a 42.6 mm steel case, a leather strap and 100 metres of water resistance, at £200 to £300; our Kinetic entry and best Seiko watches guide explain more.

None of the Orient watches we track needs a routine battery change: all 99 in stock on Amazon UK are automatic, hand-wound or solar. The Orient Kamasu is a 42 mm steel automatic with sapphire crystal, a day-date display and 200 metres of water resistance, at £200 to £300; our Orient Kamasu review has more.

Do Citizen watches have batteries?

Most Citizen models swap the battery for Eco-Drive, which charges from light: 137 of the 168 Citizens in our catalogue are Eco-Drive. On Amazon UK, though, we track only 5 in stock, 3 Eco-Drive and 2 battery quartz. That says nothing about how many Citizens Amazon UK sells: 163 of our 168 have no Amazon UK link with us yet, which is also why we count only 18 solar watches there.

Of those in stock, the Citizen Weekender Garrison is a 37 mm steel Eco-Drive on a nylon strap with 50 metres of water resistance, at £50 to £100; our Citizen Eco-Drive guide and Citizen brand page cover the rest.

Which watches on Amazon UK don't need a battery change?

Not many: 250 of the 1,577 watches we track in stock. Of these, 231 are mechanical, 226 of them automatics and 4 hand-wound, while 18 are solar and 1 is a Kinetic. The cheaper the watch, the rarer it gets: of the 834 with a current price of £100 or less, only 11 skip the battery change, and at £300 or less it is 150 of 1,378.

A mechanical watch has no battery at all, but it stops once its power reserve runs out, usually after a couple of days off the wrist; our guide on how to wind an automatic watch shows how to restart it, and our guide to watch servicing costs covers the service it needs every few years. A solar watch stores light in a rechargeable cell, which can be replaced when the watch is serviced after many years; our solar movement entry explains.

For women the choice is smaller still: of the 442 women's watches we track in stock, only 9 skip the battery change, all of them automatics. The Orient RN-AG0728S is a 35.9 mm women's automatic with an open-heart dial, rated to 100 metres in its listing, at £200 to £300. Our women's watches page and best watches for women guide have more, and our automatic vs quartz guide compares the two systems.

How we counted

The numbers come from the Bravery Watch catalogue on 23 October 2026: the 1,577 watches in it that were in stock on Amazon UK, sorted by power source. The title won over each listing's Movement line where it clearly named another power source, and Garmin, Amazfit and Xiaomi watches count as smartwatches by brand. Where only Amazon's Power Source line said solar, we counted the watch as solar only if its features line agreed or other retailers sell the model as solar. Three cheap Ravel fashion watches whose spec table says mechanical count as battery quartz, and the 10 watches whose title and spec table name no power source are in no group. Women's watches are those whose title says women's or ladies', or whose spec table does when the title is silent. Sizes, water resistance and features come from the spec tables and titles, and price bands from prices updated in the last seven days. Prices change every day; our product pages show the current Amazon UK price, VAT included.
