The Best Watches Under $1,000 on Amazon US (2026): Hamilton, Victorinox, Bulova, Citizen and Junghans

Can you get a good watch for under $1,000? Yes, and honestly, for most people I'd start with the Hamilton Khaki Field Automatic. At Bravery Watch we track watch prices on Amazon US. On October 22, 2026, 1,861 of the 2,097 watches in stock with a price updated in the past week cost $1,000 or less, but only 110 of them cost more than $500, and most of my picks come from the 97 of those that aren't smartwatches.
Key takeaways
- The best watch under $1,000 on Amazon US for most people is the Hamilton Khaki Field Automatic (38 mm, sapphire, 100 m); for diving it is the Bulova Oceanographer Snorkel GMT, and with a suit the Junghans Max Bill.
- Among the 97 watches we track on Amazon US between $500 and $1,000 that aren't smartwatches, 71 list a sapphire crystal, but only 45 are automatic, a share only a little higher than between $300 and $500.
- Hamilton has 38 of the 110 watches we track on Amazon US between $500 and $1,000, and 26 of the 30 listings there at $1,000 or less that list a Swiss automatic movement.
What is the best watch under $1,000?
Short answer: for everyday wear, the Hamilton Khaki Field Automatic, or the hand-wound Khaki Field Mechanical if you like winding. For diving, the Bulova Oceanographer Snorkel GMT, or the quartz Victorinox Dive Pro; with a suit, the Junghans Max Bill; for a chronograph, the Bulova Lunar Pilot; for a pilot's watch, the Citizen Promaster Navihawk A-T; for women, the Junghans Form Damen. For a Swiss automatic that isn't a Hamilton, the Tissot PRX.
| What for | Watch | Why | Amazon US price band |
|---|---|---|---|
| Everyday, automatic | Hamilton Khaki Field Automatic | 38 mm, sapphire, 100 m | $750 to $1,000 |
| Everyday, hand-wound | Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical | 38 mm, 9.5 mm thick, 50 m | $500 to $750 |
| Swiss automatic, not a Hamilton | Tissot PRX | 40 mm, sapphire, steel bracelet | $750 to $1,000 |
| Diving, automatic | Bulova Oceanographer Snorkel GMT | 200 m, screw-down crown, GMT | $750 to $1,000 |
| Diving, quartz | Victorinox Dive Pro | Quartz, 300 m | $500 to $750 |
| With a suit | Junghans Max Bill | 38 mm, 7.9 mm thick, sapphire | $750 to $1,000 |
| Chronograph | Bulova Lunar Pilot | 45 mm, sapphire | $500 to $750 |
| Pilot's watch | Citizen Promaster Navihawk A-T | Light-powered, 200 m | $500 to $750 |
| Women's | Junghans Form Damen | 34 mm, sapphire, 50 m | $500 to $750 |
What does a watch between $500 and $1,000 get you?
Almost every watch under $1,000 that Bravery Watch tracks on Amazon US costs $500 or less. Only 110 sit between $500 and $1,000, and 13 of those are smartwatches, seven of them Garmins. I left them out of the picks; they're on our smartwatches page.
So what does the second $500 buy? Not many more automatics: just under half of the other 97 are automatic, only a little more than in the $300 to $500 band. What it does buy is sapphire and Swiss movements. Here 71 of the 97 listings name a sapphire crystal, compared with just over half in the cheaper band, and 42 name a Swiss movement or say Swiss Made, three times the cheaper band's share. If neither matters to you, our best watches under $500 guide will serve you better; our sapphire vs mineral crystal comparison explains the difference.
What are the best watch brands under $1,000?
Five brands make up three quarters of this band: Hamilton, Victorinox Swiss Army, Bulova, Citizen and Junghans. They come at it from different directions. For the two Swiss brands, Hamilton and Victorinox, it's the middle: about half of the watches we track from each on Amazon US sit here. Japan's Citizen and America's Bulova come from below: most of the watches we track from them on Amazon US cost $500 or less. Germany's Junghans comes from above, with nothing at $500 or less on Amazon US and 60 watches over $1,000, so this band is where it starts. Tissot and Orient, behind two of my picks, have only one or two listings each here.
| Brand (Amazon US) | $500 or less | $500 to $1,000 | Over $1,000 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hamilton | 9 | 38 | 26 |
| Victorinox Swiss Army | 1 | 13 | 13 |
| Bulova | 59 | 12 | 2 |
| Citizen | 160 | 11 | 0 |
| Junghans | 0 | 10 | 60 |
What is the best field watch under $1,000?
For a field watch, start with the Hamilton Khaki Field; 24 of Hamilton's 38 watches in this band are Khaki Fields. If a friend gave me $1,000 for an everyday watch, I'd buy the Hamilton Khaki Field Automatic. The Hamilton Khaki Field Automatic has a 38 mm steel case 11.5 mm thick, a sapphire crystal, a Swiss automatic movement and 100 meters of water resistance, enough to swim in; on a leather strap it's between $750 and $1,000.
If you enjoy winding, the Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical is the hand-wound version: a 38 mm steel case only 9.5 mm thick, a sapphire crystal, a nylon strap and 50 meters, for $500 to $750. It's thinner and cheaper, but at 50 meters not for regular swimming. Our Hamilton Khaki Field vs Khaki Aviation guide compares the main Khaki Field versions with Hamilton's pilot line, and every field watch we track is on our field watches page.
What is the best automatic watch under $1,000?
The best automatic under $1,000 is still the Hamilton Khaki Field Automatic, and Hamilton dominates here: 26 of the 45 automatics in this band are Hamiltons, and so are 26 of the 30 listings we track on Amazon US at $1,000 or less that list a Swiss automatic movement. The other four are from Tissot, Victorinox, Stuhrling Original and Oupinke.
Outside Hamilton, I'd look at two. The Tissot PRX is a Swiss automatic with a 40 mm steel case, a steel bracelet and a sapphire crystal for $750 to $1,000; its spec table says only "water resistant", with no depth, so check the rating on the caseback before you swim in it. The Victorinox I.N.O.X. Automatic, also $750 to $1,000, is a Swiss automatic for rougher days: a 41 mm case, a rubber strap, a sapphire crystal, 200 meters and, per the listing, shock resistance.
For less money, the Bulova Classic Sutton is a Japanese automatic with a 43 mm steel case, 100 meters, a 42-hour power reserve per its title and a skeleton dial, for $500 to $750; its listing only says "crystal" for the glass. Cheaper automatics are in our best automatic watches under $500 guide; before choosing an automatic over quartz, read our watch servicing guide and automatic vs quartz guide.
What is the best dive watch under $1,000?
For an automatic diver, I'd pick the Bulova Oceanographer Snorkel GMT. The Bulova Oceanographer Snorkel GMT has a 41 mm gray ion-plated steel case, a double-curved sapphire crystal, 200 meters of water resistance, a screw-down crown, a one-way rotating bezel and a GMT hand for a second time zone; on a silicone strap it's between $750 and $1,000. Divers rated to 200 meters or more are scarce here: only 19 of the 97 watches that aren't smartwatches have that rating.
If you'd rather have quartz, the Victorinox Dive Pro is a battery quartz diver with a 43 mm case, a steel bracelet and 300 meters, for $500 to $750; its listing only says "crystal" for the glass. The deepest rating in this band, 500 meters, belongs to the Traser P67 Diver, a 46 mm steel quartz diver with a sapphire crystal and a steel bracelet, also $500 to $750. Cheaper divers are in our best dive watches under $500 guide, and every diver we track is on our dive watches page.
What is the best dress watch under $1,000?
With a suit, the Junghans Max Bill. The Junghans Max Bill has a 38 mm case just 7.9 mm thick, a sapphire crystal, a silver dial, a leather strap and a battery quartz movement, for $750 to $1,000, and at that thickness it slips under a shirt cuff. Its listing says "water resistant" without a depth, so I wouldn't swim in it. For an automatic on a steel bracelet, the Tissot PRX, which its listing files as a dress watch, has a 40 mm case 10.9 mm thick and a sapphire crystal, for $750 to $1,000. More slim watches are on our dress watches page.
What is the best chronograph watch under $1,000?
For a chronograph, the Bulova Lunar Pilot. The Bulova Lunar Pilot is a quartz chronograph with a 45 mm black ion-plated steel case, a sapphire crystal and a leather NATO-style strap; its title names Bulova's Precisionist movement, and it's between $500 and $750. The story behind the name is in our best Bulova watches guide. At 45 mm the Lunar Pilot is big for a slim wrist; for a smaller one, the Junghans Form C is a 40 mm quartz chronograph, which Junghans calls a Chronoscope, with a sapphire crystal, a leather strap and 50 meters, for $500 to $750. More are on our chronograph watches page.
What is the best pilot or GMT watch under $1,000?
For a pilot's watch, the Citizen Promaster Navihawk A-T. The Citizen Promaster Navihawk A-T has a 48 mm steel case, a light-powered Eco-Drive movement, a chronograph and 200 meters, and its title says Atomic Timekeeping, meaning it sets itself by radio signal; it's between $500 and $750. But its crystal is mineral, not sapphire, and 48 mm is very large. If that rules it out, the Citizen Promaster Air Skyhawk is a solar Eco-Drive pilot's watch with a 45 mm titanium case and bracelet, a sapphire crystal, a chronograph and 200 meters, also $500 to $750.
For a second time zone, the Orient Mako GMT is an automatic diver with a GMT hand, a 42 mm steel case, a sapphire crystal, a steel bracelet and 200 meters, for $500 to $750; its listing calls it a limited edition. The Bulova Oceanographer Snorkel GMT (41 mm, sapphire, 200 m, $750 to $1,000) has a GMT hand too. More pilot's watches are on our pilot watches page.
What is the best women's watch under $1,000?
My pick for women here is the Junghans Form Damen (Damen is German for women's): a 34 mm steel case 7 mm thick, a sapphire crystal, a steel bracelet and 50 meters, for $500 to $750. You rarely need the full $1,000, though: of the 635 women's watches at $1,000 or less that we track on Amazon US, 627 cost $500 or less. To stay under $500, the Bulova Marc Anthony Marine Star, which its listing calls a ladies' watch, has a 36 mm ceramic and steel case, a ceramic bracelet, a sapphire crystal and 100 meters. More are on our women's watches page and in our best watches for women guide.

What size watch should I get?
Men's watches in this band run small: of the 67 here whose spec table gives a case size, 35 are 40 mm or less, compared with three in ten across all the men's watches we track on Amazon US (296 of 982). The Khaki Field's 38 mm fits most wrists; the Lunar Pilot's 45 mm and the Navihawk's 48 mm look big on a slim one. Measure your wrist with a paper strip and enter it in our watch size calculator, which shows the case sizes that fit; our case size study tracks how men's sizes have changed.
Are watches under $1,000 waterproof?
Not strictly: watches are rated for water resistance, and the meters are a test pressure, not a depth you can dive to. Roughly, 30 meters is for rain and hand washing, 50 gives more margin but isn't for regular swimming, 100 is for swimming, and 200 is for snorkeling and free diving; for scuba, look for an ISO 6425 dive rating. Among the 97 watches in this band that aren't smartwatches, 31 of the 80 listings that give a figure are below 100 meters, most of them at 50. Our water resistance guide explains each step.
What should you check before buying a $1,000 watch on Amazon US?
Check who sells and ships it, and ask whether the manufacturer's warranty card is in the box. Fakes exist at this price too; our guide on how to spot a fake watch shows what to look for.
Most items can be returned within 30 days of delivery, per Amazon's returns help pages, and Amazon has announced that purchases from November 1 to December 31, 2026 can be returned until January 31, 2027 (Apple products until January 15, 2027); our Christmas gift guide explains how to pick and size a gift. Amazon US prices don't include sales tax, which is added at checkout where the state you ship to charges it, so the $1,000 line here is before tax.
Happy hunting.
How we checked
The numbers come from the Bravery Watch catalog on October 22, 2026: 2,097 watches in stock on Amazon US with a price updated in the past seven days, and we went through the 110 between $500 and $1,000 one by one. Movement, crystal and water resistance come from each listing's spec table or title, case size from the spec table; a silent listing counts as unknown, and smartwatches are left out of these counts. A watch counts as women's when its spec table or title says so, unless one of them says men's. Our catalog does not cover every watch on Amazon US. Return windows come from Amazon's returns help pages and its October 2026 announcement to sellers. Prices change every day; our product pages show the current Amazon US price.

Do Amazon US watch prices include sales tax?
No. Amazon US shows prices before sales tax; where the state you ship to charges sales tax, it is added at checkout.
